First District Os Red
Men Meet Tonight
A meeting of the First District
of Improved Order of Red Men will
be held in the lodge room of Pasquo
tank Tribe, No. 8, in Elizabeth City
tonight. The meeting will begin at
7:30 o’clock and all Chowan Tribe
members are especially urged to at
tend, as very important matters will
come up for discussion.

is to the effect that a large crowd is
expected and that refreshments will

DIME SOCIETY ENTERTAINED
The regular monthly meeting of
the Dime Society of the Edenton Bap
tist Church was held Tuesday even
ing with Mrs. J. H. Holmes at her
home on East Water Street. Quite
a number of the members were pres
ent and a most delightful meeting
was enjoyed. At the conclusion of
the evening the hostess served dainty
refreshments.
The February meeting will be held
with Mrs. W. D. Holmes.
MATTIE MACON WHITE CIRCLE
ENJOYS REGULAR MEETING
The regular monthly meeting of
the Mattie Macon White Circle was
held with Mrs. George W. Lassiter
Monday afternoon at her home on
North Broad Street.
After the opening exercises, and
the disposal of routine business, the
lesson for the meeting was taught
by George W- Lassiter. Mrs. C. T.
Doughtie, leader, made her announce
ments and an invitation to meet in
February with Mrs. H. B. Jones was
accepted.

MISSES SAUNDERS GIVEN
DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE PARTY
A most enjolable affair was the
surprise party given Misses Frances
and Katherine Saunders on Monday
evening at their home in Green Hall
by Miss Hazel GoodvVin. The Misses
Saunders are moving to Norfolk,
Va., and this gathering was in the
nature of a farewell party. Quite a
large number of young people were
present and the evening was spent
in dancing and with games. Dainty
refreshments were served before the
guests left.
TWO MARRIAGE LICENSES
GRANTED ON SATURDAY
Two marriage licenses were issued
on Saturday by Mrs. M. L. Bunch,
acting Register of Deeds, both cou
ples being colored.
The contracting parties were

Joseph Harrell and Carrie Jordan,

Oak Grove School
“The Man in the Green Shirt,’* a
play sponsored by the Rocky Hock
Young Woman's Club, will be pre
sented at the Oak Grove school on
Friday night, February 7, at T:3O
o’clock. This same play was pre
sented during December at Beech
Fork and due to the many requests
the Club has agreed to again stage
the performance at Oak Grove.
The cast is now at work practice
ing and the entertainment is expect
ed to draw a capacity house.
Mrs. Nola Perry Dies
At Home In Colerain
Mrs. Nola Perry, aged about 55
years, died Tuesday night at 6 otlock
at her home in Colerain, following
an illness covering a period of about
two years. Funeral services were
held at the home Wednesday after
noon with interment taking place in
the family burying ground near
Perrytown.
Mrs. Perry is an aunt of Mrs. J.
A. Curran, of Edenton, who was at
her bedside when she died.

HOSTS AT TURKEY SUPPER
Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Goodwin in
formally entertained a few guests at
a turkey supper at their home in
Green Hall last Thursday evening.
The affair was complimentary to
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Saunders, who
are leaving the County in the near
future. Mrs. Saunders is Mr. Good

Friends of S. W. Taylor will regret
to learn that he is now forced to re
main at his home. Mr. Taylor has
been quite ill for several weeks, at
times recovering enough to be able
to be out, but at present shows little
improvement.
