Colwell delivered to us our Books for 1936, each woman paying 3c. j' For her subject of the month Miss Colwell had Furniture Arrangement. Giving each woman two pages of di rections for arranging them she showed us pictures of properly ar ranged rooms and mantels, and pic tures hung in the right way- In every living room, she said, there must be a center of interest. In sub-freezing weather like this, it is easy to see that this is the fire jdace or other source of heat. In summer.it may be a cool window with a seat underneath. Have a place for every one who is to occupy it and the things he would like to hake and low seats for children; ash '‘ways for smokers, games and tables for larger people. Equally heavy ob jects much be at an equal distance from the center. Each of the four walls must balance within itself. Pic tures are to be hung over fixed furni ture by wirgs not to be seen. Oval pictures reqiure two wires. Here Mrs. E. N- Elliott brought in a new contrivance for hanging pic tures, which hides the place of hanging. At the close, the hostess, assisted *Mrs. John Elliott, served dainty dwiches with hot coffee. We thank her. The next meeting will be on Feb. 10, at P. M., in the school build ing. Mrs. W. H. Winbome will give a Civics and Citizenship program. Mi W. WINBORNE, Secretary. Filing Tax Returns Closes On March 16 The period for the filing of income tax returns covering the calendar year 1935 begins January 1 and ends at midnight of March 16- March 16, the usual close of the filing period, this year falls on Sunday, allowing taxpayers an additional day of grace, which, however, it will be to their interest to disregard. To file early is of mutual benefit to the Government and the tax-payer. Within this pe riod are led annually millions of in dividual income tax returns, a large proportion of which report income subject to the tax. The latter con tain a considerable percentage of er rors, which if uncorrected by the audit would result to the disadvant age of the taxpayer. Many are er rors of computation easily discovered on the face of the return, which us ually is accomplished by a payment of more than the amount of tax due. In other returns it is reaidly dis cernible that the taxpayer has failed to take advantage of the personal exemption, credit allowed for de pendents, or deductions from gross income to which he is entitled- To avoid these and other errors, the Bureau of Internal Revenue urges careful reading of the instructions on the forms for filing the returns. Ad ditional information, if needed, may be obtained at the office of a collector of internal revenue, deputy collector, or an internal revenue agent in charge.
