Ike Grantham and Dave Mizzelle, of Windsor, visited friends in Eden ton Sunday evening. Marvin Skiles, of Elizabeth City, was in Edenton Saturday. Friends of Graham Byrum will re gret to learn that he has suffered a relapse and is quite sick at his home on Oakum Street. Mrs. C. N. Mrs. Hugh Warren has been quite sick for the past few days at her home on West Eden Street. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sutton, Mrs. John Moore and baby, and Miss Lu cille Sutton, of Hertford, visited Mrs. B. F. Francis, on East Water Street, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Tim Blanchard, of Centre Hill, was in town Monday shopping. Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank White, Sr., and Mrs. J. Frank White, Jr., spent Sunday in Elizabeth City with J. Frank White, Jr., who is in the Al- Hospital. Mr. White is con valescing nicely following an opera tion last week. O. H. Brown attended the banquet given by the Building & Loan Asso ciation in Tarboro Tuesday evening. Mrs. Rupert Goodwin is visiting in and near Edenton. She has been at Jarvisburg with her parents for the past few weeks. Dan Moran, who has been serious ly ill in Protestant Hospital, Nor folk, Va., is reported to be much im-; proved, and unless some complication* arises, will probably return home next week. Miss Sarah Burton leaves today to visit Miss Anne Jones and Miss Sophie-Kittle in Williamston for the rest of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Asbell visited with relatives at Centre Hill Sunday. Mrs. A. A. Harrell has returned to her home on East King Street after spending a few days with relatives at Winfall, and in Norfolk, Va. O. B. Perry, who has been quite ill with an attack of pneumonia, is now able to be out. Miss Ola Wroten, of Norfolk, Va., spent the week-end with her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wroten, on North Broad Street. James Boyce, for the past several years salesman with the J. H. Holmes Company, has severed his connection with the firm, and is sell ing insurance in Elizabeth City for the Durham Life Insurance Company. R. E. Leary and R. P. Badham at tended the banquet given by the Building & Loan Association in Tar boro on Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Vincent, Jr., of Norfolk, Va., are expected to spend the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Vincent, at the Fish Hatchery. Mrs. J. B. Cheshire and son, Joe, of Raleigh, spent the week-end as guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Kramer on East Queen Street. Mrs. William Jones and Mrs. Jim mie Earnhardt spent Tuesday in Nor folk Va. Dr. and Mrs. M. P. Whichard, Miss Pearl Whichard and Bill Whichard, spent Tuesday afternoon in Norfolk, Va., shopping. Mrs. W. D. Pruden and Mrs. R. G. White left today for a few days’ stay in New York. Mrs. W. A. Graham returned Fri day night after spending two weeks with her son, Dr. Wm. A. Graham, in New York. Mrs. James H. Webb, of Falette ville, arrived Tuesday to visit Miss Mary Pruden. After spending the spring holi days with his parents, Mr- and Mrs. J. A. Maiming, of WiJUams ton, spent the week-end with her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. I* V. Spruill, in North Edenton. Miss Hedrick’s Music Pupils Take Honors Friends of Miss Madge Hedrick, daughter of Mrs. W. F. Umphlett, < and who teaches music at the Wake Forest High School, will be delighted to know that two of her pupils won places in the State contest of the North Carolina Music Federation, held at Elon College on Saturday, March 14th, one winning first place in the Class A piano contest, while another won second place in the Class C piano contest Wake Forest piano pupils, under the direction of Miss Hedrick have received much favorable comment from music lovers throughout the State, frequent recitals being given at which large numbers attend. R. T. BRYAN CIRCLE HAS REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING • The R. T. Bryan Circle of the W. M. S. of the Edenton Baptist Church, met with Mrs. C- T. Hollowell at her home on East Eden Street Mon day afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, with the leader, Mrs. Raleigh Hollowell, presiding. Eighteen members were present. The meeting opened with “The Woman’s Hymn,” and Mrs. J. H. Haskett offered prayer. After the disposal of routine busi ness, Mrs. J. H- Holmes, personal service chairman, reported proceeds from the cake and candy sale as be ing SIO.OB. This sum is to be used for personal service work, and the Circle wishes to express appreciation for the cooperation. After the watchword for the year had been repeated in unison, Mrs. C. T. Hollowell brought a message from the W. M. U. State Convention held in Raleigh. Mrs. Hollowell’s mes sage was interesting and enjoyed. Mrs. W. C. Bunch dismissed the meeting with prayer, and the group adjourned to meet with Mrs. W. D- Holmes in April. MATTIE MACON WHITE CIRCLE MEETS WITH MRS. J. S. LEARY The Mattie Macon White Circle of the W. M. S. of the Edenton Baptist Church met Monday afternoon for the March meeting with Mrs. J. S. Leary, at her home on Blount Street. Mrs. C. T. Doughtie, Circle leader, was in charge of the meeting, which was well attended, and very interest ing. Routine business followed the roll call and minutes of the previous meeting. At the conclusion of the business meeting a social hour was enjoyed. The hostess passed salted nuts and mints- The April meeting will be held with Mrs. T. C. Byrum. ' MRS. BERT WHITE ENTERTAINS Mrs. Bert White entertained a few friends at supper Saturday night, ’ followed by a “Beano” party. Those present were Mesdames W. S. Vin cent, Paul Holoman, E. T- Rawlin ' son, W. Q. Elliott, Jr., and C. Theatre Packed For Amateur Program With just about as many as the building would hold, the amateur night program last Friday night in the Taylor Theatre proved the in creasing popularity of this form of amusement. The program was com posed entirely of colored talent, in cluding singing and dancing. Seven acts were put on by the following: , The Boys, Willie Lam b£fth,‘Willie Walker, feoy Davehport, Manuel Morse, and Willie Jordan; the Pilgrim Four, Willie Spruill, Joe Willie Garrett, Elijah Privott and Robert Privott; Reuben Burke; Johnny Wilson, Lawrence Collins and Herbert Granby. The prize was forced to again be split when Reuben Burke for his Charleston dance and Johnny Wilson for his crooning brought about the same amount of applause. There will be two amateur nights this week, the same children appear ing tonight and Friday night in con nection with Shirley Temple’s pic ture, “Littlest Rebel.” The $lO prize will be divided each night on this account. All the children on the program are less than 12 years old, and will present singing, har monica music, acrobatic stunts, ac cordian, tap dancing and a novelty band. The management again ex pects a crowded house to witness the youthful artists. CROSS ROADS ] Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Hollowell and son visited Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Leary, Sr., of Rocky Hock Sunday afternoon. Durwood Bateman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Bateman, is recovering from an attack of pneumonia. Miss Lois Savage is confined to her home with mumps. Mrs. B. W. Evans is teaching for her. Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Hollowell, Sr., visited Mr. and Mrs. Melton Bate man Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Z. W.
