PAGE SIX Town Council Proceedings Edenton, N. C., Aug. 14, 1936. The Town Council met this day in the Town Office at 8 o’clock P. M., in regular monthly session. Present: E. W. Spires, Mayor; A. G. Byrum, W. E. Bond, 0. B. Perry, T. W. Jones, L. P. Williams and G. M. Byrum. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Committee on lease of fair ground property to A. M. Forehand reports th»% city attorney has found that lease is legal, and satisfactory ar rangements have been worked out with J. L. Wiggins. On motion of 0. B. Perry and seconded by L P. C- Twine, of Tur key Neck, Tuesday. Miss Mary White called to see Mrs. A. L. Casper Sunday morning. A. B. Owens was in Suffolk, Va., on business Friday morning. A. L. Casper is on the sick list. Misses Ethel, Mattie and Clarine Owens visited Mias Mary White, near Hobbsville, Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Owens and children were dinner guests of Mrs. Owens’ mother, Mrs. B. S. King, of Jappa, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Casper spent the week-end near Gatesville with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. John Bunch and baby, of Rocky Hock, visited Mrs. B. S. King, of Joppa, last week Merry Hill Farmer Profits By Method Os Feeding: Hogs A hog feeding demonstration con ducted by N. J. Miller of Merry Hill, route 1, in Bertie County has given him a profit of $340.51 for his labor after deducting costs of all feed con sumed, reports County Agent B. E. Grant. Twenty-two pigs were included in the demonstration with a total weight of 944 pounds when the feed ing period began. When sold the pigs weighed 4,552 pounds or a gain of 3,558 pounds. This gain was puF on at a cost of $130.50, or an aver age of 3.62 cents a pound. The aver age selling price for the pigs was $10.35 per hundred, says Grant. C., THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 1936. vision has been made by local tax or otherwise by which any of said pur poses can be financed, other than by the ordinary school tax levied in said County, and that all of said tax is required for other purposes, and said Board has requested the Board of County Commissioners of Chowan County to issue bonds to pay the cost of financing said purposes; and Whereas, the Board of County Commissioners has determined and hereby finds that all of said determi nations made by the County Board of Education are true, and that it has become the duty of the Board of County Commissioners to provide funds to finance the cost of said pur poses, in order to maintain the pub lic schools in Chowan County, as an administrative agency of the public school system Os the State, for the six months term required by the Constitution of North Carolina: Now, Therefore, Be It Ordered, by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Chowan, North Carolina, as follows: Section 1. Pursuant to the Coun ty Finance Act of North Carolina, as amended, bonds of the County of Chowan, North Carolina, are hereby authorized to be issued in an aggre gate principal amount not exceeding SIOO,OOO, for the purposes herein after described. Section 2. The proceeds of said bonds shall be applied solely to the cost of rebuilding, enlarging, recon structing and equipping the school buildings in said County hereinabove described. Section 3. A tax sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on said bonds when due shall be annually levied and collected. Section 4. A statement of the county debt of Chowan County has been filed with the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners of said County, and is open to public in spection. Section 5. This order shall take effect thirty days after the first publication thereof, after final pas sage, unless in the meantime a peti tion for its submission to the voters is filed under The County Finance Act, and in such event it shall take effect when approved by the voters of the County at an election as pro vided in said act. “The foregoing order was finally passed on the 18th day of August, 1936, and was first published on the 20th day of August, 1936.
