Anior Class Stages Cake Sale Saturday A cake sale will be staged by the girls of the junior claas of Edenton p£fh School Saturday in the store of i Byrum Bros. Hardware Company. The profits from this sale will go toward taking care of the expense of the annual Junior-Senior banquet held later in the year. Hassell. P.X A. Os Merry Hill Sects New Officers The {Karent-Teachers Association had its first meeting on Wednesday night. Mr. Williams, Principal, map ped out an outline he wished to have carried out during the year. New officers were elected. Mrs. E. J. rruden was made president; Miss Mittie Phelps, vice president; Mrs. Norman Keeter, secretary and treas surer. A balance of sll was left over from last terra and $45 was cleared at the play last week. A fish pond has been made in front of building and a driveway is under construction, new kitchen and lunch room improve ments have been made, with Mrs. Cad Capehart in charge. A Hallo ween program and frolic was held on Friday night at which time all enjoyed a good time and a goodly sum made. Edenton Glee Club Now In The Making Satisfactory progress is being made by Mrs. Gordon Blow in organ izing a glee club in the Edenton High School. Last year Mrs. Blow earned considerable credit for herself ' and the Chowan High School by pro ducing an excellent club in the up- - county school, which appeared on many programs during the school session. A goodly number have enrolled for the club, but Mrs. Blow is exper- ' iencing some difficulty in all of the 1 members being able to leave classes at the same time for rehearsals. ' This handicap, however, will no 1 doubt be remedied, and she is very 1 optimistic of producing a creditable ■ glee club. MRS. W. J. DANIELS HOSTESS YOUNG WOMAN’S BIBLE CLASS The regular meeting of the Young Woman's Bible Class of the Edenton Baptist Church was held on Tues day evening with Mrs. W. J. Dan iels, at her home on Oakum Street. The president opened the meeting. Mrs. Raleigh Hollowell offered pray er, after which routine business was taken up. Mrs. E. W. Mason, assis tant teacher, gave the lesson for the evening, and Mrs. V. L. Moore dis missed the gathering with a prayer. The December meeting will be held with Miss Iva Mae Dail. During the social hour the hostess es, Mrs. Edna White, Mrs. Jordan Yates, Miss Nannie Ward, Mrs. Dan Cannady and Mrs. Annie White, served dainty plates. Those present included Mrs. W. C. The children appear to be taking much interest in all of the activities. Basketball as well as football practice is now in progress Miss Pruden’s pupils gave a very de lightful program Friday in chapel. Local Red Men Will Initiate Monday Night The drive for .membership in; Chowar Tribe of Red Men is rapidly increasing in interest, 4en palefaces having J>een voted on Monday night,, who will be notified .te be present next .Menday night for initiation. The Tribe’s degree team has been re organized and rehearsals held in or der to exemply the lessons taught in the degrees to the large number who are expected to join the Tribe. All members are urged ho be pres ent Monday night, when the regular business session win be as brief as possible in order to give ample time to the degree team. Chowan Glee Club Now In Full Swing The Glee dab of Chowan High School has gotten in full swing with about 50 members enrolled. A double trio, composed of Marguerite Etta Evans and Pearl Nixon, sopranos; Eleanor Winslow and Mary Leary, second sopranos; Louise Bush and Evelyn Tynch, alto, will sing for the County-wide meeting of Club Women on Friday afternoon, November 6, at the Parish House. Clubs Urged Send Reports Immediately Though annual reports of all dem onstration clubs of Chowan County should have been in the hands of Miss Rebecca Colwell by November 1, , Miss Colwell says some few are still ' missing. She requests these reports 1 to be sent to her immediately so i that she will be enabled to make out , her reports which must be sent to the ( State office at Raleigh, as well as to Washington, D. During the beginning of the con- * test Pearl Nixon, a pretty little ■ blonde from the sophomore class, was leading; followed in full chase ' by Marian White, a brunette from ‘ the junior class. Eva Nixon, one of 1 the seniors, has been giving the 1 young ladies a chase, also. Several girls have been nominated, and it is a hard task to decide among them which is the prettiest. The entire student body is waiting with eager expectation the close of the contest and the announcing of the winner.
