William, who is a student at Citadel MBitary Academy, was enroute home to spend the holidays when he was stricken with appendicitis, and was placed in a Tarboro hospital for an immediate operation. Thomas Markham, of Elizabeth City, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jesse White, and W. A. White this week. Mrs. Theodore Roberts left Satur day for Aiken, S. C., to spend seve ral days with her husband. Mr. JRaberts is now employed with the ..Mack stores and expects shortly after January 1 to be transfered to North Carolina. Mrs. Joseph Northcott returned to her home on East Carteret Street Monday from the Albemarle Hospi tal, Elizabeth City, where she has been under treatment for the past; few weeks. Clarence Leary was hostess at a delightful tea Monday afternoon at her home on West Queen Street, complimentary to Mrs. Erceli Webb, of Paleigh, a recent bride. The attractive Leary home wasj beautifully decorated with Christmas greens and poinsettas. The dining table was covered with an exquisite lace cloth and centered with an ar rangement of pine boughs and burs, I and red tapers. . Sirs. T. C. Byrum received the guests at the door, and Mrs. J. U. in the West Chowan Association, under the direction of D. J. Robin son, attempted something that they have never done before, that of hav ing a banquet. For some time there had been a feeling that a social hour was need ed for the Associational officers, di rectors, B. Y. P. U. leaders, and senior officers and pastors as guests. So on Tuesday evening at the Ahos kie Baptist Church this event was put into action, and was responded to with whole-hearted enthusiasm by the B. Y. P. U. groups in the Asso ciation.
