COMMISSIONERS MEET AT
COUNTY HOME ON MAY 27
The County Commissioners will
meet at the County Home on Thurs
day, May 27, for their quarterly in
spection of the home. According to
the report made to the commissioners
Monday by Dr. M. P. Whichard,
county health officer, the home is in
good condition as is alsci the jail
and court house. Dr. Whichard,
however, did recommend that the
latter building be swept and dusted.
MASONS MEET TONIGHT
Local Masons have been very act
ive this week to register a large at
tendance at the regular meeting of
Unanimity Lodge tonight. The
lodge is in the midst of a very close
attendance contest and members on
both sides of a divided membership
are working hard to win a banquet
at the expense of the losers. At pre
sent the side captained by W. Jim
Daniels holds a lead of only two
over G. A. Helms and his cohorts.
The meeting was called off last week
due to the scheduled game of don
key baseball.

Very good collection of Chowan
County taxes was noted in Sheriff
J. A. Bunch’s monthly report to the
County Commissioners on Monday.
During April Mr. Bunch collected
$4 ,728.06, which boosted his collec
tions to date to $62,303.12 or almost
70 per cent of the year’s taxes.
