Work on remodeling and improv-,
ing the Gulf Service Station on the
southwest corner of Broad and Queen,
Streets began this week, which,
when completed will give Edenton!
one of the most attractive and up- j
to-date service stations in this sec
tion.
Improvements call for an enclosed
two-stall lubitorium to the west of
the present station and building a
canopy over the present pump island,
which will be moved two feet toward
Queen Street. Besides, a new pump
island will be erected along Broad
Street. A driveway will be provided
along the White building to the lot
in the rear, which will serve as a
parking and storing space. The en
tire lot will be laid with concrete. A
Storage room will also be built at
-the rear of the parking lot.
The new canopy will be finished in
all white decorative stucco and will
greatly add to the appearance of an
already attractive station. Guy
Hobbs, manager, says the contract
calls for 80 working days to com
plete the improvements.

In THE Firestone Standard Tire, you get extra value
in the form of extra safety . It costs more money to build a
safer tire. But Firestone can build a first-quality tire made of
top grade materials and sell it for less money, because
Firestone controls rubber and cotton supplies at their
sources, manufactures with greater efficiency and distributes
at lower cost.
YOU GET EXTRA PROTECTION AGAINST BLOWOUTS eight extra
pounds of rubber are added to every 100 pounds of cord by
the Firestone patented Gum-Dipping process. By this
process every fiber of every cord in every ply is saturated
with liquid rubber. This counteracts dangerous internal
friction and heat that ordinarily cause blowouts.
YOU GET EXTRA PROTECTION AGAINST PUNCTURES because
under the tread are two extra layers of Gum-Dipped cords.
YOU GET EXTRA PROTECTION AGAINST SKIDDING —because the
tread is scientifically designed.
YOU GET LONGER NON-SKID MILEAGE because of the extra
tough, long-wearing tread.
You need all of these features to make your car tire-safe
on your week-end or vacation trip. Firestone gives them to
you at lower cost. Join the Firestone SAVE A LIFE Campaign
today by equipping your car with a set of new Firestone
Standard Tires today’s top tire value.
DON’T RISK YOUR LIFE ON SMOOTH WORN TIRES!
DO YOU Know
THAT last year highway accidents cost the lives of more
than 38,000 men, women and children?
Thai a million more were injured?
THAT more than 40,000 of these deaths and injuries were
caused directly by punctures, blowouts and skidding due
to smooth, worn, unsafe tires?
