Holmes Company this week announces their annual January Clearance Sale during which time ex traordinary bargains will be offered shoppers of this section. The sale begins today (Thursday) and will be in progress nine days, terminating on Saturday, January 29. A double-page advertisement ap pears in this issue of The Herald, which li Is expected . will attract anany customers to the store. Only a comparatively few bargains are list ed and, says Mr. Holmes, everything in the store has been reduced for the sale. Town Council Proceedings Edenton, N. C., Jan. 11, 1938. The Town Council met this day in the Town office at 8 o’clock P. M. in regular monthly session. Present, J. H. McMullan, Mayor; G. M. By rum, O. B. Perry, W. E. Bond, A. G. Byrum, J. E. Bufflap and L. P. Wil liams. The minutes of the previous meet ing were read and approved. On motion of O. B. Perry, seconded by J. E. Bufflap, it is ordered that equipment be purchased for the Fire Department as follows: Smoke masks, ladder, first aid kit, hitch-on suit, Siamese connection, order for pqujpment to be approved by the Fire < 4 Commissioner. -On motion of W. E. Bond, second ed'by O. B. Perry, it is ordered that Town purchase from J. L. Wiggins a pair of rear gear log wagon wheels sty moving stumps.. 'On motion of G. M. Byrum, sec onded by A. G. Byrum, Vernon Hal sey is granted a beer license. On motion of G. M. Byrum, sec onded by 0. B. Perry, Louise D.
