IW. C. Bunch Quotes Scripture Verses To Emphasize Fishing I Superintendent Tells of Work Being Done at Fish Hatchery rotarymeeting k Says 7,000,000 Young ' ' Shad Were Liberated ' Last Year \\ Quoting a number of passages of Scripture to emphasise the duration and importance of fishing, W. C Bunch, superintendent of the United States Fish Hatchery, at last Thurs day’s Rotary meeting gave a splendid address upon the work carried on at the local station. Mr. Bunch in his remarks admitted that little is known about the where abouts of shad after they leave the local spawning grounds, but told his hearers that exhaustive studies are now in progress to solve the mystery. He said that the' pond area has been more than doubled, which will enable them to utilize one large pond for experimenting with the shad by keeping them to a larger size before they are released in local waters. By this method, he explained, it is be lieved that many more of the shad will be able to escape some of their » natural enemies and develop into mature fish. Last year at the local plant, Mr. Bunch said, 7,000,000 shad were lib erated, and in order to learn more about them, many were tagged, which revealed the fact that some traveled as far north as Nova Scotia. How ever, in his opinion, tagging of rock was more successful than the experi ments with shad. Before closing his address, Mr. Bunch invited the Rotarians to ask any questions regarding his work, which resulted in a very interesting round table discussion of many phases of fishing. Before adjourning the meeting President W. M. Perkins appointed C. L. McCullers and C. D. Stewart as a committee to meet with Mrs. Jesse White relative to securing chairs for the local Armory.
