MISS WALES HOSTESS Miss Betty Wales entertained a few friends at a spaghetti dinner at her home Monday evening. Those enjoying the occasion were Misses Anna Wood, Mary White, Myda Weaver, Sara Ellen Goodwin, Doria Jean Leary, Barbara Kepler, and Betty Wales, and Fred Hoskins, Pete Everett, Durward Harrell, Clyde Spencer, Tom Byrum, Billy Shepard, Meredith Jones, and; Lee Dickey, of Sweet Water, Tenn. T. E. L. CLASS MEETS The T. E. L. Class of the Edenton Baptist Church met Monday evening with Mrs. B. F. Francis at her home on East Water Street. The meeting was thoroughly enjoyed and was the largest attended meeting of the class in months. After the devotional and transaction of routine business, a matter of vital interest to the wel fare of the class was prayerfully discussed, but no action was taken. During the social hour lemonade and cookies were served by the hostess. Those present included Mrs. A. L. Stillman, Mrs. W. J. Berryman, Mrs. J. Frank White, Sr., Mrs. J. J. Long, Mrs. J. C. Councilman Perry then put his mo tion and when Mayor McMullan call ed for the vote, Dr. L. P. Williams, councilman from the First Ward, I favored it, and Councilman G. M. By rum, of the Second Ward, opposed it. The other members of the Council did not vote. Mayor McMullan did not break the deadlock, but he ended the discussion i by appointing a committee of two members to investigate the whole sit uation and bring a report on their findings before next general meeting of the council. Garden Club Hollis May Meet At Hayes Encouraging- Report By President Shows Many Accomplishments An encouraging report of two years of activity by the Edenton Gar-! den Club, prepared by the president,' Mrs. J. A. Moore, showed that ap-| proximately 200 trees, shrubs and bulbs have been planted, in addition to many other beautifying projects that have been carried out. The re port was given at the meeting of the ; club which was held Tuesday after- { noon at Hayes with Mrs. John G. l Wood as hostess. In the absence of the president, Mrs. R. P. Badham, the vice presi dent presided. Routine business was carried out and all committees gave good reports. The program consist ed of a very elaborate floral display, which was contributed by the club members from their own gardens. These flowers were sent to Miss Mary Pruden, who was unable to be present. The social hour and visit to Mrs. Wood’s garden was a delightful cli max to a very enthusiastic meeting. The hostesses for the June meeting will be Mrs. Richard Dixon, Mrs. W. A. Graham and Mrs. H.
