HUGHES—SANFORD J. D. Hughes, of Edenton, and Miss Marjorie Sanford, of Washington, N. C., were quietly married Saturday night at the Baptist parsonage, the Rev. E. L. Wells officiating. Mr Hughes is the son of Mr. and Mrs David Hughes and the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Sanford, of Washington. The couple will make their home in Edenton, where Mr. Hughes is con nected with Chestnutt Cleaners. BUNCH—BASS Information reached Edenton Wed nesday that Miss Marjorie Bass, of Washington, D. C., and Portland, Oregon, and Linnie Bunch, of Wash ington, D. C., were married in the Baptist Church at Winchester, Va., at 3:15 o’clock on Sunday, December 3rd. Mr. Bunch is the son of Ed Bunch, of Rocky Hock. JUNIOR AUXILIARY MEETS An interesting meeting of th Junior Auxiliary was held at the home of Mary MacDonald. Holmes, at which time it was decided to send stationery to veterans at Oteen. The young ladies also plan to send a Christina® box to one girl in the sanatorium. Doris Brown and Caro lyn Oglesby will direct this work. Those present at the meeting were Martha Conger, Lillian Byrum, Mary Griffin, Pauline Moore, Charlotte Bunch and Mary MacDonald Holmes. Four visitors were also present. The next meeting will be held on January 4th with Nell Perry. GIRLS’ AUXILIARY MEETS The December meeting of the Girls’ Auxiliary of the Edenton Baptist Church was held with Betsy and Ruth Goodwin. The president called the meeting to order and Ruth Goodwin read from the second chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. The members then offered a sentence prayer. Roll call was followed by the minutes of the previous meeting. An interest ing program was presented. This group reported sending fruit to the sick as personal service work. The hostesses served delicious refresh ments. Members present were: Lillian By i rum, Bertha Crummey, Lois Reich, I Helen Carter, Beverly Moore, Alice i Spruill, Catherine Alexander, Char lotte Bunch, Betsy and Ruth Good win, Margaret Crummey, Ella Gray Crummey, Mrs. C. T. Doughtie and Mrs. D. M. Carter. Martha Conger was a visitor. GUM POND CLUE MEETS Gum Pond Home Demonstration | Club held the November meeting at the home of Misses Eva and Pearl I Nixon. The meeting was opened by singing “Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes,” after which the Club I Collect was repeated. The December meeting will be held with Mts. Z. T. Evans, as will also the Christmas party. ENTERTAIN AT DINNER Mr. and Mrs. Millard F. Bond, Jr, entertained at dinner Saturday even-, ing at their home on North Granville Street. Covers were laid for twelve at a beautifully appointed table. Boys Helping 20 Needy Families ■ i The Edenton Chapter of New i Farmers of America carried out its ' annual Thanksgiving program by : giving food and wood to the needy. . Although only a few were reached on i Thanksgiving Day the boys are con- i tinuing their aid until they reach ] their goal of helping twenty families. They gave flour, sugar, meat, sweet ] potatoes, beans, peas, collards and j wood to six families and have about 1 j four more cord.s of wood and a hun-1 • dred heads of collards yet to give | j away. The wood is being delivered \ as fast as it can be cut and efforts , are being made to deliver it all,this, ) week. The N. F. A. is an organization , of boys studying vocational agricul ture at the Colored High School un der the direction of Alexander Blaine Agriculture teacher, and Principal D. F. Walker. CHOWAN WOMAN’S CLUB MEETS The Chowan Woman’s Federated Club met on Monday afternoon, Nov. 27, at the Community Building. The meeting was opened by singing the Club Woman’s Hymn. The president read a selection of Scripture and the Collect was repeated. Fifteen mem bers answered roll call. Minutes of the last meeting were read and ap proved.. The treasurer reported that S2OO had been paid on the note in the bank and that all outstanding bills with the exception of one S3O bill, had been paid. Mrs. E. N. Elliott reported that she had collected s9l on chairs. Plans were completed for the Christmas party to be held Thursday night, Dec. 14th, when the Home Demonstration and Federated Clubs will entertain husbands of the mem bers at a turkey dinner. The Club voted to send a sunshine bag to Mrs. B. W. Evans, who is still confined to her bed. It was also voted to send a Christmas basket to two people. Mrs. Z. W. Evans, chairman of the music department, had a very inter esting program, the subject being i “Message of Music.” ENTERTAIN AT DINNER Dr. and Mrs. P. W. C. Leary. SINGS IN CANTATA News has been received in Creswell that Miss Theda Hopkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Members present were delighted to learn that 200 tulip bulbs have been planted on the Standard Oil Company property on Water Street and that winter grass has been planted on the Court House Green. Moore’s report on an address j delivered recently by Mrs. Albert Crosby at a meeting of the Elizabeth [ City Garden Club which was attended by a group from the Edenton Club. Two new members, Mrs. M. All members are asked to attend this meeting. Teachers Get Over 2 Weeks For Christmas Edenton school teachers will be given over two weeks to celebrate the Christmas holidays this year. The schools will close tomorrow (Friday, afternoon and will not re open until Monday, January 1.
