Hx Young Men f Enlist In Army Corporal Joseph L. Hes ter Located In Post Office Lobby Corporal Joseph L. Hester, U. S. Army recruiting officer, whose head quarters are in the Post Office lob by, reports that six recruits have tpassed the examination and have left Kdenton to be placed in the regular Mtmy. Two recruits failed to qual ify, according to Corporal Hester, but the six accepted were: Harry Lee Spruill and Hugh Ashley of Edenton; William Peele, of Colerain; Daugh try Spivey, of Hertford; James R. Mitchell, of Ahoskie, and George G. Perry, of Colerain, most of whom requested service in Honolulu. The recruiting officer has noticed a great deal of interest in the air corps on the part of prospective re cruits. Young men contemplating enlist ment in the Army Air Corps should fully understand that enlistment in itself does not imply that they will eventually pilot Army planes. How ever, if physically and educationally qualified, they may become flying cadets with a view to obtaining com missions in the Air Corps Reserve with pilots’ ratings and assignment to active duty with the Regular Army Air Corps. Applicants for fly ing cadet training must have at least two years of regular college work or be able to pass an examina tion covering that work, f•.. . - - 18 Retail Beer Outlets Licensed In Chowan There are 18 places of business in Chowan County licensed by the State to sell beer at retail.
