PAGE TWO Death Clams Mrs. Martha Umphlett Funeral Held Friday at . New Hope Largely Attended .Ob Thursday morning about 7 o’clock, death claimed Mrs. Martha Umphlett at the home of her daugh ter, Mrs. A. C. Boyce, with whom she had lived for the past several years. Mrs. Umphlett was the widow of the late Chamey Umphlett, prominent Perquimans County farmer, and de spite her 87 years of age she was very active until three years ago when she had the misfortune to fall and break a hip, since which time she has been an invalid. While living in Perquimans Coun ty Mrs. Umphlett endeared herself to her neighbors and the community by her unselfish usefulness and ser vice. She was an exponent of old Southern womanhood wherein she de rived a peculiar sense of happiness in sacrifice and hardships for the welfare of those more unfortunate whom she knew and loved. Despite extremely cold weather, a large crowd of friends attended fun eral services Friday afternoon. The Services were held at the New Hope Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. J. O. Cranford, and the Rev. W. C. Benson, pastor of the Edenton Methodist Church, officiating. In- CLASSIFIED [save TIMEI I the «| WELDING OUTFITS, $23.17 and $27.73; Electric Welders, $49.68.
