PAGE TWO Cresweil Scouts Enjoy Camporee Scoutmaster Sees Op portunity For Scouts Os Section Seventeen members of Cresweil Boy Scout Troop No. 101 arrived home Sunday afternoon reporting a good time in spite of the inclement weather which prevailed during their stay at the Kinston Camporee. Scoutmaster Sidney Smithson agreed with other Scout leaders that it was the best camporee yet. The Creswdl Troop has recently had five new members added. Each of these five boys was ready to pass the tenderfoot test. They are: Alton Harris, Edwin Norman, Charles Mc- Gowan, Leon Hassell and Albert Nor man. Scoutmaster , Smithson feels that there is an opportunity for the Scouts of the Southern Albemarle to accom plish much, especially since the Re settlement Administration has leased to them for 20 years the lovely Hot on Lake Phelps with a two-room hut and 39 acres to be used for nature study and other scout activities. Phelps, 1 79, who died at his home in Cherry Saturday morning at 1 o’clock, were conducted at the home Sunday after noon at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. L. B. Bennett officiating. Interment was in the family cemetery. During the services Mrs. L. B. Bennett sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and a duet, “Whisper ing Hope,” was sung by Mrs. Ben nett and Mrs. C. L. Barnes. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: Irvin Gibbs, Ira Phelps, Ashley Swain, R. A. Gibbs of Cres well, James Liverman of New Bern, and A1 Swain of Plymouth. Mr. Phelps, a life-long resident of Washington .County, was a well known farmer of the Cherry com munity. For the past 95 years he has been a member of Philippi Chris tian Church. Surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Janie Davenport and Mrs. Willard Barnes of Cresweil; one brother, J. W. Phelps, of Hopewell, Va.; five daughters, Mrs. W. A. Gibbs, Mrs. J. W. Swain, Mrs. J. E. White, Mrs. Lennie Phelps, of Cresweil, and Mrs. J. R. Liverman, of New Bern; and two sons, S. E. Phelps, of Cresweil, and H. L. Phelps, of Roper. T GUM POND T ® $ Mr. and Mrs. W. L.
