PAGE TWO Feast Os Lights At i St Paul’s Sunday Impressive Affair Members Wend Their Way Home With Lighted Tapers Beautifully impressive was the Feast of Lights offered as part of the Epiphany service at St. Paul’s last Sunday night, and a large congrega tion of Episcopalians and many from other churches took part in it to the pleasure of the rector, the Rev. C. A. Ashby, who inaugurated it as an annual innovation here. Those who participated carried lighted tapers from the church to their homes after the services, symbollizing the carry ing of The Light of the World into their residences, and with very few exceptions this was executed. On the church altar Sunday night thirteen candles were shown in illum ination, the largest one behind the cross representing Christ, and the other twelve the apostles. As the services were about to conclude, the regular church lights were blacked out and the gathering room, except for the altar candles was in total darkness. The twelve church vestry men then walked to the altar with long tapers which were lighted from the Cross candle, and in turn they went about the congregation and lighted similar tapers given the at tendants as they entered the church ahead of the service. With lighted tapers the congrega tion departed for its homes, many by automobile but an equal number afoot. As they went their way in groups and singly, the waving tapers sparkling through the outer dark ness made a particularly impressive sight. One of Franklin s chief attri butes was thriftiness, .which he constantly preached to those who knew him. This month pf his birth reminds us of some of the lessons this great American taught. It is a good time to embark on a systematic savings program, putting away some part of your weekly earnings, no matter how small, just so you put away a regular sum regularly. When your earning power has ceased or decreased, or when some emergency strikes, you’ll know how worth while it is to have created a reserve fund for your needs.
