Bensoa offered, the invocation. Mayor J. H. McMullan welcomed the visitors to Edenton, which was re sponded to by Mayor Jerome Flora, e of Elizabeth City. W. F. Nufer, in charge of State blackouts, was one of the speakers, who explained the absolute necessity and the method of effective black outs. Major Herrin, attached to the State office, in a most impressive manner, detailed the proper system of coordi nation of all units and used maps i and motion pictures to stress the salient points. 1 The school was a distinct success, ■ and everyone left feeling more en • thusiastic about civilian defense and THE CHOWAN HERALD, BDENttON, N. C., THURSDAY, MAY 28, 1942 many expressed the opinion flat they had benefit ted immeasurably from the brief schooling. Miss Marian Fiske Weds John D. Welch : Os interest to Herald readers is 1 the marriage of Miss Marian Fiske/ 1 and John Davis Welch, which took 1 place in the Moyock Baptist Church Saturday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. H. L. Swain, officiating. Miss Fiske, for several years a member of the Chowan High School faculty, is the daughter of Ers. Bes sie Fiske of Moyock, and the late Richard Edward Fiske. Mr. Welch, who resides in Norfolk, Va.. is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Dorsey Welch, of Tyner. The churcn was decorated with palms, evergreens, baskets of white peonies, white summer flowers and cathedral candles, and the wedding music was played by Mrs. E. Marvin Mann. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Fred M. Poynev, of Moyock, sang “I Love You Truly,” and Miss May Belle Edwards, of Whaleyville, Va., sang “Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life.” The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, Eppa Hunton Charlton, of Norfolk, Va. She wore a navy blue sheer costume dress accented with buttonholes trimmed, with em broidered white daisies, and white accessories and a corsage of white orchids. The matron of honor and only at tendant was Mrs. W. Dorsey Welch, Jr., of Washington, N. C., who wore a tailored dress of pink chiffon with white leghorn hat and matching ac cessories, and carried a bouquet of garden flowers. The bridegroom had as his best man his brother, W. Dorsey Welch, Jr., of Washington, N. C., and the ushers were Drew Graham Welch, of Tyner, brother of the bridegroom, and Harry B. Davis, of Norfolk, Va., cousin of the bride. The bride’s mother wore a navy olue sheer redingote dress with navy and white accessories, and a corsage of red roses. Mrs. Welch, mother of the bride groom, wore a dress of powder blue chiffon, and a corsage of pink roses. Mistress of ceremony was Mrs. Yates Barber. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Eppa Hunton Charlton entertained at a reception at the bride’s home, and later Mr. and Mrs. TOC T* kR IA k IN 7DAYS rv666 (POL^TCAITaDVEOTISING) Bonner’s Record For Agriculture Praised I uJm jm THE EFFORTS of ’Congressman Herbert Bonner in behalf of the farmers are well-known to well-in formed farmers and businessmen. But despite this fact, a steady cam paign is being waged by his opponent, Marvin K. Blount, seeking to make the farmers believe that Mr. Blount lis a friend of the farmer, and Mr. Bonner is not. In recent speeches, Blount has criticised Bonner for not being on the agriculture committee of the House. He should know that ! only one Congressman from a state may be on that committee, and there ; is now no vacancy for North Carolina. 1 And Blount, while claiming to be a 1 friend of the fanner, is part owner | of a fertilizer company which has just | paid a S9OO fine in Federal Court for , conspiracy to force the farmers to 1 pay higher prices for fertilizer than they should pay. ’ Now comes proof from Washing -1 ton that Bonner has done every -1 thing he possibly could do under ; present conditions for the farmers. 1 From Congressmen who are chair -1 men of special committees, Mr. Bonner has received endorsements. , From Congressmen Sol Bloom of j New York and W. C. Tarver of [ Georgia have come statements show r ing what Bonner did to help the I tobacco farmers, and of his sqccese I in getting an appropriation set up to ! develop the beef cattle industry in I eastern North Carolina. 1 So time after time, the Washing -1 ton authorities have shown that the 1 misleading and unfair statemsnts given out about the CongressAian, | have all emanated from one source, and that from ope who oply seeks to get the job he has, without regard to any other factor. 1 ' Welch left for a northern wedding trip. 1 They will make their home in ( Moyock. The bride is a graduate of Mere- < dith College, while Mr. Welch is a < graduate of State College in the School of Engineering. He is * ' member of ‘Delta Sigma Phi Frater- ; nity. 1 Town Council Proceedings Edenton, N.
