Williams, 11, with her infant son and nurse, have arriv ed to spend the summer with Mr. and Mrs. George C. Wood, at Greenfield. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Collins, of Hills boro, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Wood, at Green field. Mr. and Mrs. Collins accom panied their daughter, Mrs. Frank L. Williams, 11, '-and her son to Green field, where they will spend the summer. Private Logan Elliott, stationed at Fort Bragg, spent an unexpected week-end leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Elliott, JJr. Sgt. Carl C. Tanner, a member of the military police at Fort McClen lan, Ala., is enjoying a 10-day fur lough, part of which is being spent with his brother and sister-in-law, Chief of Police and Mrs. J. R. Tanner., Mrs. Henry Lewis and daughter, I of Hertford," spent the week-end as the guests of relatives. Miss Sarah V. Sutton, of New City, spent last week here visiting relatives. Sergeant James G. Brothers, Jr., of Richmond, Va., who is stationed with the Yankee Division at Fort Jackson, S. C., was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. James G. Brothers, Sr., of Elizabeth City, while on his furlough. His wife is the former Annie Holmes Blliott. of Edenton. Mrs. Bert White has returned to her home in Washington, D. C., after spending the past week here visiting friends. Billy Starling and Tim Williams, of Clinton, were guests at the Hotel Joseph Hewes last week-end and at tended the Junior-Senior Prom on Friday night. Dr. W. S. Griffin has returned from attending the meeting of the North Carolina Dental Society at Raleigh. Lieut. Jess Powell, son of Dr. and Mrs. J. A. Powell, a member of the U. S. Medical Corps, has been trans ferred from lowa to take post grad uate work at the University of New York and Columbia. HOLI.OWELL—CHAPPELL In an impressive ceremony on Sat urday, April 29, at the Baptist Par sonage at Cross Roads, Miss Viola Chappell became the bride of J. H. Hollowell. The Rev. J. T. Byrum officiated. The bride was beautifully dressed in a two-piece suit of aquia with white accessories. Her corsage M-as of sweetheart roses and valley lilies. The couple were accompanied by Mrs. A. L. Hollowed and Miss Tal madge Hollowed, of Tyner. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Chappell, of Tyner. She is a graduate of Chowan High 1 School and attended Perquimans County High School. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Hollowed and is a prosperous young farmer. Immediately after the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Hollowed left for a short wedding trip, and are now at home with his parents. SANDS—WHITE Miss Marian Hope White, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. White, of Gliden, and Joseph B. Sands, sea man first class, U. :S. N., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Sands, of Shomo kin, Pa., were married February 25, 1944, in the Virginia Dare Hotel, Elizabeth City. The couple are now residing in Norfolk, Va. CORPORAL SHIRLEY BUNCH VICTIM OF PLANE CRASH Corporal Shirley Bunch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil G. Bunch, of near Sandy Cross, was killed in a plane crash at Hunters Field, Ga., on April 19. Funeral services were conducted at Beulah Baptist Church Sunday after noon at 3 o’clock, with the Rev. Her bert Miller officiating. Interment was made in the family cemetery near Sandy Cross Church. Corporal Bunch was 20 years old. He was a graduate of Sunbury High School, being a member of the class of 1942. A guard of honor was sent from Fort Story, Va.. to perform the mili tary rites. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. Besides his parents, the deceased is survived by two brothers, Willie C. Bunch, of Norfolk, Va., and Jerry Bunch, of Sunbury; two sisters, Mrs. Yirgie White, of Corapeake, and Miss Nellie Bunch, of Sunbury. THE BARK of EDEHTON “Safety For Savings Since 1894” Member Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Vesper Services Are Abandoned Vesper services which have been held in the Methodist Church Sunday evenings for the past several weeks have been discontinued, according to action taken by the Chowan County Ministerial Association. At a meeting held Monday, the ministers decided that the number of service men and women attending the services did not warrant their con tinuation. There will, therefore, be no service Sunday evening. COUNTY DEBT REDUCED D. M. Warren, chairman of the Chowan County Commissioners, was, at the monthly meeting of the Board on Monday, authorized to pay $4,- 646.57 on the county indebtedness, which will be due June 1. The amount represents road and bridge bonds and coupons and Edenton graded school bonds and coupons. HalfTioliday Wifi ~ Begin Wednesday Beginning Wednesday of next week, the summer half-holiday will go into effect when practically all of Edenton’s stores will close at 1 o’clock every Wednesday.
