Miss Ruth Byrum, daughter of Mr.
afid Mrs. L. S. Byruin, is expected to
arrive today (Thursday) from Fairfax
Hall, VVaynesville, Va., to spend the
Christmas holidays with her parents.
Miss: Byruin is a member of the
senior class. ■
I'fc. J. Carrol! (iriffin. who recent
ly returned from overseas, spent the
week-end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. .1. V (Iriffin. I'fc, Griffin, a
member of. the li. S. Marine Corps, is
nmv stationed at Camp Lejeune.
While overseas he participated in the
battles of Guam and Iwo Jima.
Miss Betty Thigpen, a student at
Gouisburg College spent the week-end

The guests were greeted at the door

Mrs. Lonnie Boyce directed the
guests to The lien, where , punch was
served by Miss Audrea Rowell and
Mrs. Edmund Burke. Mrs. Charles .S’.
Griffin, Jr., invited the guests to the
dining table, which was covered with
a Quaker Lace Cloth,' centered with
a crystal bowl of white chrysanthe
mums and fern, flanked on either end
with white lighted tapers in crystal
'holders.
Presiding in the dining room was
Mrs. Wilkins, and Mrs. Charles N.
Griffin, where refreshments con
sisting of ice. cream, . cakes, mints.!
aml toasted nuts were served by
Misses Mary Gray. Byrum, Mary
Goodwin, Marguerite HolioweH, Sara
Miller. Dorothy L. Savage, and Mrs.
,1. M. Boyce.
Mrs. Nathan Bail presided; over the
brides book where approximately one
hundred guests registered.

Bruton Parish Episcopal Church,
Williamsburg. Virginia, was the scene
of a marriage of widespread interest
on Saturday afternoon, December 8,
at 5 o'clock, when Miss Dorothy Ann
Cummings, daughter of the late,
Frank and Katherine Cummings of
Woodland, California, became the
bride of Lieut. John Washington Gra
ham. ESN R.
The ceremony was performed by the
Rev. E H. Craighill, rector of the
Parish, and by the Rt. Rev. Thomas
Durst, D. 0., former Bishop of the
Diocese of Eastern North Carolina.
The bride, who was given in marri
age by her cousin, Pvt. Randall Rucell,
of Chicago and Camp Lee. Virginia,
wore a brocaded satin entrain with
rounded neckline of illusion, long
Sleeves, tapered to points over the
hands, moulded bodice, finger tip veil,
with a coronet of orange blossoms.
Her bouquet was of bride's roses.
Lieut, (jg) Esther M. Ridenour, of
the Weeksville Naval Air Station, the
bride's only attendant, wore a gown
of. heaven blue net, with a bouquet of
red radiance roses.
Dr. William A. Graham of Durham,
\. C, brother of the groom, was best
man, and George W, C.apeliart, J.r„ of
Scotch Hall Plantation, North Caro
lina. and Richard N. Hines, of Eden-'
r ,l ton were ushers.

The bride, who served as a Lieuten

terminal leave. Her home before

of Leland-Stanford University of Palo
Alto, Calif., where she received her
1 A.B. and M.A. degrees, and where she
is a member of the Delta Delta Delta
. Sorority.
The groom is a graduate of the
University of North Carolina. Chapel
Hill, with A.B. and L.L.B. degrees. |
He is a member of the Zeta Psi fra-1
ternity. Before entering the Naval
service, he was a practicing attorney!
in Edenton and Prosecuting Attorney 1
for Chowan County, later becoming!
Judge of the Recorder's Court of the,
county. It was from this position he
resigned to enter the U. S. Navy.
Following the marriage ceremony,'
an informal reception was given at
the Williamsburg Lodge by the
groom’s mother for the bridal party
and wedding guests.
