32 More Report At Chowan Draft Board Following Discharge Total of 373 Veterans to Date Return to Civ ilian Status Since the recent published list of *l4l Chowan County boys and girls have reported to the local Draft j following their discharge from armed forces, 23 more white and nine colored men have reported, bringing the total to 373 of those dis charged and reporting at the Draft Hoard. The white group includes Lindsey K. Harrell, Leslie C. Alexander, Brice K. Hollowed, Fermor Hare, John H. Oliver. Jr.. Herman C. Wheeler, John W. Alexander, Henderson R. Peele. Lester H. Ashley, Guy E. Hollowell., Ervin C. Griffin, Willie W. Spruill, Troy E. Toppin, John R. White, Edwin, L. Byrum, Noah Bateman, William K. Hendren, Aimer C. Ward, James L. Hassell, Jr., Miss Mildred Owens, Las sell E. Chappell, Ned M. White and] Ernest Whitson. The colored list includes Melvin P. Littlejohn, Horace L. Jordan, Leslie H. Phelps, Sherman W. Elliott, Her man L. Jernigan, Charles H. Hath away, John H. Jordan, Thomas M. Rawls and Clarence Bonner. Funeral Held Sunday For Mrs. Sarah Lewis After a short illness, Mrs. Sarah G. Lewis, 68, daughter of the late Louisa and Alonza Small of the Mace donia section, died on December 28 at 11*15 P. M. at the home of her sis ter, Mrs. H. L. Bond. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the Mace donia Church, with the Rev. J. T. By rum officiating. The casket was cov ered with pink carnations and white gladioli. The hymns “Rock of Ages” and “Safe In the Arms of Jesus” were sung. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rosa L. Clark of Norfolk, Mrs. Fran cis Russell of Harrellsville, and one son, E. V, McClenney of Edenton. A brother, W. B. Small, and a sister, Mrs H. L. Bond, both of Edenton, and 14 grandchildren, two great grand children and several nephews and nieces :vls<> survive.: Interment was; made in the Mace donia 'heard. .. Passengers will go directly to the separation centers nearest their homes to complete the formalities of obtain ing their discharges before returning to civilian life. Day will be pleased to learn that he has recently been nominated for appoint ment as brigadier-general for tem porary service. Col. Day was stationed for a time at the Edenton Air Station when it was occupied by the Marines and dur ing his stay here won many friends. During World War I Col. Day serv ed with distinction as an officer with the First Marine Aviation force in France and was awarded the Navyj Cross for heroic service in operations j ( on the Belgian front. 1 From January, 1941, to February,] 1942, Col.
