Prices For Cotton
Drop Last Week
1947 Production Goals
Released By Secretary
Os Agriculture
Cotton prices declined during last
week. Prices for Middling 15/1(! inch
in the ten spot markets averaged
.'11.30 cents on Friday. January 17.
'Phis compares with 32.2!) cents a
week earlier and 24.52 ;i year ago.
Final farm production goals for
1047 were announced by the Secre
tary of Agriculture. The final goal
for cotton is 23.1 million acres. An
acreage this large would be 27 per
cent more than the 1872 million acres
planted in 104(1. At average yields
of 263 pounds per acre an acreage
equal to the goal would produce about
12.6 million bales. This would be sub
stantially more than the 8.5 million
hales produced in 1946 and approxi
mately equal to the 10 year (1935-
44) average production.
