PAGE SIX Prices For Cotton Drop Last Week 1947 Production Goals Released By Secretary Os Agriculture Cotton prices declined during last week. Prices for Middling 15/1(! inch in the ten spot markets averaged .'11.30 cents on Friday. January 17. 'Phis compares with 32.2!) cents a week earlier and 24.52 ;i year ago. Final farm production goals for 1047 were announced by the Secre tary of Agriculture. The final goal for cotton is 23.1 million acres. An acreage this large would be 27 per cent more than the 1872 million acres planted in 104(1. At average yields of 263 pounds per acre an acreage equal to the goal would produce about 12.6 million bales. This would be sub stantially more than the 8.5 million hales produced in 1946 and approxi mately equal to the 10 year (1935- 44) average production.
