Apr 10,17,24may1,8,16jnp l ĜHBGFHD PAGE SIX Demonstration Club Week In Progress ' Purpose to Inform More | i People About Type Os Work Done I __ I .Sunday marked the opening of Na itional Home Demonstration Week, the theme of which is “Today’s Home I i Builds Tomorrow’s World.” “Possibly there are folks who won- j i der why we have a Home Demonstra jtion Week at all,” says Miss Rebecca Colwell, Chowan County Home Agent. "If that’s as far as we go, then it’s high time we had more Home Demon stration Weeks, because the home in home demonstration week belongs to you. "In other words, the vVhole purpose of setting aside a definite week, May 4 to 11, is to tell more people about home demonstration work. The best way to do that is to describe what homemakers are doing right here in this county. And there are 3,000 other counties in the United States that have the same idea. At the same j time, it applies whether you live ini town or on the farm. “And don’t let Anybody tell you it doesn't concern the men, for it does. Good hon'ies are for everybody wh 7> lives in them, not just good food on j the table, but safety, health, conveni i ence and pleasant recreation. ; “It’s all in the home demonstration j picture. “One way of starting is with a home demonstration club. Clubs are organized in a community with the aid of the county home demonstra tion agent. It’s her job to help the • club members learn new things that |will make home and family life more enjoyable.” Every woman is urged to join the club in her community, and women in unorganized communities: should see the home agent about organizing a club. 56 JAILED IN APRIL According to a report of Jailer Her man White, 56 persons were placed in the Chowan County jail during the month of April. Confinements ranged | from one to six days, with the expense totaling $141.65, which includes jail and turnkey fees. TAX COLLECTIONS Sheriff J A. Bunch during April collected $5,860.46 for 1946 taxes, j which brings total 1946 taxes collect ed to date to $78,460.54. ! On the |basis of these examinations the King jand Queen of Health will be chosen. The nurse gave each club member as thorough an examination as possible in the limited time during the club meeting. It is the belief that this is a good idea, as many boys and girls j often have eye trouble or dental j trouble and do not know about it un less it is called to their attention. “Many such weaknesses can be over come if measures are taken to correct these ailments in time,” says Assist ant County Agent Robert Marsh.
