The new name and a new trade mark, the CS Rooster, will serve to identify the stores, as well as the company’s top quality private brands of merchandise. The unique trade mark, created by an outstanding de signer of labels and trademarks, shows a rooster with the body form ed by the letters “CS.” In a message to the company’s more than 5,000 employees in Vir ginia, Georgia, North and South Ca rolina, Hunter C. Phelan, president, pointed out that the new name and trademark are part of a normal de velopment .and expansion program. He said that the company was eager to identify all of its stores through one name and label, especially in view of the fact that packaging and dis tribution of private label merchan dise are expanding. In making the announcement, Co lonial Stores officials emphasized the fact that introduction of the new name and emblem entails no manage- i ment changes or transfers. These super markets have thrived on public acceptance of added variety of merchandise, every-day low prices and strict adherence to high standards of quality and service, com pany officials said. N Colonial Stores always have pur chased large quantities of produce grown in the areas served by the stores and this policy will be con tinued with increasing benefits as operations are expanded, officials of the company stated. The organization also has taken an active part in the promotion of 4-H Club and other programs for young fanners and Colonial Stores' buyers regularly attend fat, cattle shows in key cities throughout the territory. This company also sponsored the “Food For Fighters” program during the war years and has been interested in egg marketing and other phases of 4-H Club work. USDA Asks For 25% Cut In Peanut Acreage In order to receive a support price of 90% parity as of July 15 for 1948-crop peanuts, producers must vote at a referendum to be held be fore December 15, 1947, to reduce the nation’s 1948 peanut acreage to about 75% of that planted in 1947, according to Secretary of Agriculture i Clinton P. Anderson’s recent pro |clamation establishing 760,000 tons ■as the 1948-crop peanut marketing quota. Secretary Anderson’s pro clamation was occasioned by the provisions of the Agricultural Ad justment Act of 1938 which requires that unless the supply of peanuts for edifile products and vegetable oils is THE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTON, N. C., THURSDAY, AUGUST 7,1947. below domestic demands and probable exports, marketing'quotas must be established. The 760,000 ton figure was deter mined by analyzing the actual dis appearance of peanuts cleaned and shelled during the last five years, which averaged 673;000 tons farmers’ stock and the prospective disappear ance from the 1947-48 crops which is estimated at 579,000 tons. It also includes an estimated tonnage al lowed for seed, feed and home use on farms and for damaged nuts. To produce • the 1947 marketing quota, the 3,136,000 acreage planted in 1947 would be reduced to 2,324,109 in 1948, based on a yield of 654 pounds per acre.
