Shelton W. Moore Dies Suddenly As 'Result Heart Attack Many Attend Funeral Services In Baptist Church Friday Shelton W. Moore died suddenly «t his home on North Broad street Shortly after 6 o’clock Wednesday af ternoon of last week as the result of a heart attack. His death came as a complete shock to his family and the community, for he had been in hie usual health and Was attending to his duties on his farm shortly be fore. Mr. Moore com plained of not feeling so well and went home and after resting awhile told his son to take the tobacco as'he r would be all right after a rest. How [ ever, he died a short while later. Deceased, a, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel W. Moore, was a l native of Perquimans County, but lived in Edenton for the past 33 years. He was’a veteran of World War I, having served overseas with Company I, 119th infantry, and had , taken an active part in American Le gion affairs. He was a past com : mander of Edward G. Bond Post No. 40. Mr. Moore was also a deputy ' sheriff of Chowan County at the time > of his death and for many years was Chowan County jailer. Wells officiating, where" i a military funeral was held. The fc color guard was composed of T. C. t Byrum, Sheriff J. A. Bunch, West I Byrum and W. J. Yates. At the con l elusion of the ceremony three rounds I were fired by a firing squad from ■ the Edenton Cannon Company and taps were blown by Bunch, , Jr., and West Byrum, Jr. Active pallbearers were L. S. By : rum, Henry Gardner, Jim Hassell, i R. L. Pratt, Thomas Boswell and Walter Riddick, the latter two from Elizabeth City, all of whom served with Mr. Moore overseas in Company I, 119th' Infantry. Honorary pallbearers were mem bers of Ed Bond Post of the Ameri can Legion and John M. Bond of Phoebus, Va., who also served with Mr. Moore overseas. Hobbs and Lloyd Overton, Jr. In event any Chowan County fam ily is missed in the drive, some mem ber is urged to contact any member of the above group in their respective township. President Baker emphasizes the fact that this is a time when there is evidence of organized political and economic power and that as indivi duals farmers are helpless in dealing with this organized force. He points out, however, that by uniting, the farmers can raise their voice and press their claims, and one of the best ways to bring this about is by i every farm family in the county to i become a member of the Farm Bu- ; reau. The officers of the Chowan County Farm Bureau are: President, J.- E. Baker; vice president, L. E. Francis; secretary-treasurer, Joe A. Webb, Jr.; i directors, A. C. Griffin, J. C. (Dick) Leary, W. H. Saunders, J. B. Webb and R. H. Hollowell. MASSES NEXT SUNDAY IN EDENTON AND COLUMBIA The Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered Sunday, September 14, at 11 A. M. in' St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Edenton, and at 8:20 A. M. in Columbia Theater, Columbia, each in cluding sermon on “The Church’s Commandments Explained”, Holy Communion, concluding in 45 min utes, followed at once by Sunday School, confessions beginning in Co lumbia 8 to 8:15 and in St. Ann’s 10:30 to 10:55 A.
