PAGE EIGHT SOCIETY NEWS First Lieut* Junius W. Davis, Jr., M.C., U. S. Army, will arrive from San Antonio, Texas, today (Thurs day) to visit his parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Davis, Sr. Lieut. Davis will ffeave Sunday for Yokohama, Japan. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Newberry of Washington, D. C., who have been visiting friends here, left “Monday to visit friends in Plymouth. D. B. Liles has returned from a; two weeks’ visit with .relatives in Zebulon and Raleigh. He was ac companied home by Prof. E. B. Finch of State College and Mrs. Finch, who were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Liles. Harrell Pratt of Chapel Hill spent the week-end visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kehayes. Frank Muth of Snow Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar 'Ward of Richmond, Va., were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Liles and Miss Mamie Hogg. Miss Charlotte Bunch left Edenton last week for Greensboro, where she is a student in Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina. Dail and Miss Agnes-Chappell have returned from a week’s vacation spent in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cowart and Mr. and' Mrs. W. W. Belch of Newport News have returned from spending a week’s vacation in Florida. Erie Cofield left last week for , Chapel Hill, where he is a student in the University of North Carolina. Patrolman E. R. Tolley returned Saturday afternoon from a week spent with relatives in Salisbury and other sections of Western North Car olina. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Tarkington and son returned to their home in Henderson Sunday night after spend-, ing the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. William Privott. Maurice Bunch, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Bunch, left Saturday for Chapel Hill, where he will be a stu dent in the University of North Carolina. Mrs. Leroy Haskett returned home Sunday afternoon after spending several weeks visiting in the Pied mont section of North Carolina. Miss Ruth Byrum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Byrum, left Saturday to resume her studies at the Univer sity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Former Governor J. C. B. Ehring haus of Raleigh was a visitor in Edenton Tuesday afternoon. • Mr. Ehringhaus is attending Federal Court being held this week in Eliza beth City. Mayor Leroy Haskett spent Tues day morning in Elizabeth City on business. Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Owens spent Sunday in Newport News. Miss Dorothy Lee Chestnutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Chest nutt, will leave Sunday for Brevard College, where she is enrolled as a student. Miss Mary Goodwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Goodwin, left last week for Chapel Hill, where she is a student in the University of North Carolina. Millard Ward left Wednesday for ECTC 'at Greenville. Beulah Blanchard Weds Sam Gasque I In a quiet ceremony performed at the Edenton Baptist Church on Thursday, September 18, at 11:30 [ o’clock- in the morning, Miss Beulah ! Blanchard became the bride of Sam 1 Gasque of Mullins, S. C. The Rev. R. N. Carroll, pastor of the church, 1 officiated, using the ring service. The bride wore a brown suit with brown accessories. Her shoulder cor sage was yellow roses and baby breath tied with yellow satin ribbon. The marriage was attended by relatives and a few intimate friends of the couple. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. 8.. Blanchard of upper Chowan County and is very popular among a large circle of friends. For the past several months she has been connected with the Chowan Hospital. Mr. Gasque has been connected with the Spivey store in Edenton for the past several months. Following the ceremony the bridal party was entertained at a buffet luncheon by Miss Estelle Privott at her home on West Eden Street. Following the luncheon Mr. and Mrs. Gasque left for a wedding trip and are now at home at. 101 West Water Street. Club At Center Hill Meets With President Tjie Center Hi(l Home Demonstra tion Club met September 12 at 2:30 o’clock with the president, Mrs. J. T. White. The president called the meeting to order with the group sing ing “We Believe In Our State.” . Scripture from I Corinthians, 13th chapter, was read by the president. Those taking part on the program ; were Mrs. Medlin Belch, Mrs. J. C. Boyce, Mrs. T. E. Chappell and Mrs. J. N. Boyce. Miss Rebecca Colwell gave a very , interesting talk on “Accessories For the Fall Wardrobe.” All enjoyed a social period before adjourning. SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY Miss Daisy Monds of Tyner was honored Tuesday evening, September 16 at 7:30 o’clock with a surprise birthday party at her home. The living room was decorated with beautiful flowers. A large birthday cake bearing 15 candles dec orated in white and green was cut and served to her friends. The hon oree received many lovely and use ful gifts which she gratefully ac knowledged. During the evening ice cream and cake was served.
