PAGE TWO C.W. Overman Sees Good Chance For Dairying In County Extension Dairyman In Chowan Looking: Over Prospects Chowan County presents a wonder ful opportunity for some dairying, ac cording to County Agent C. W. Over man. “There is no dairy in the county and particular sections of the county are well suited to produce pas tures and feed crops needed,” says Mr. Overman. “It is an enterprise which should be bringing additional farm income to many farms. The problems involved in getting dairying started are many. Cash crops on most farms for the last several years have provided good income. Our farmers are familiar with cash crop farming and not familiar with dairy ing. We don’t seem to have many farmers who are willing to keep and milk a cow for home use. The -cost of starting into the dairy business, even with a few cows, is very high at this time. There are also many other factors that enter into the problem.” A. C. Kimrey, Extension dairyman of N. C. State College, was in Eden ton last week looking over the pros pects of dairying. He, together with Mr. Overman, visited a few farmers and gave some very sound advice. Mr. Overman said he still hopes to get some dairying started in the county.
