1 Dr. Frank Wood I Sven Athol House \ Sum Also Set Aside to Pay* Hospital Lights And Water ' Meeting in special' session Thursday night of last week, Town Council heard a request from the trustees of Chowan Hospital for use of Athol' house by Dr. Frank Wood, surgeon at the hospital. The Athol house was recently put under control of the Town of Edenton as the result of a consent court order by Federal Judge Don Gillam. Town Councilman, realizing that it was the intention to furnish the Athol house to Dr. Wood when negotiations were under way for him to return to Edenton, agreed for him to occupy the house. At present, Raymond Um baugh is in possession of the house and he was notified to vacate within 30 days. Action of Town Council „will result in a saving to the hospital of $1,200 a year, for rent at the rate of SIOO a month is being paid for the Richard D. Dixoni house (Beverly Hall) as a -« home for Dr. Wood. During the meeting, in. compliance with a request of the hospital trus-. tees, Town Councilmen authorized the Board of-Public Works to transfer $2,400 from its fund which is to be ) used in. paying for lights ahd water at the hospital. This action will also aid in reducing the deficit in operat ing the hospital. It was pointed out that while the hospital will almost, certainly .show a deficit at the end of the year, the number of patients and income is in creasing, which is very encouraging. It was also pointed out that even if the hospital is operated at a loss, it is one of the best assets the town and county has. Band Fund Now Near $6,000 Goal * .1. .... - Only S9OO More Needed Up to Tuesday Night To Assure Band With the County Commissioners on Monday contributing SSOO to the Edenton band fund, the “ther mometer” at the Bank of Edenton was given a “shot” which sent the “mercury” up to the $5,100 mark, leaving only |9OO more to .be contri buted to realize £he $6,000 goal which will assure a band for Edenton. « While there are still a few more prospects from whom a contribution is anticipated, members of the PTA, sponsors of the movement, feel that they are gradually reaching the van ishing point to collect any more money. However, they have not giv en up hope, for with the goal in sight they have made up their mind that S9OO will not be between them and the ultimate success of the ‘ drive. They are determined and feel confident that S9OO more can and will be raised to makq the $6,000 figure. Os course, workers believe that .some have been inadvertently missed who would make a contribution if so licited. For that reason, a request is made that if anybody will help by making a contribution in any amount to send it to H. A. Campen, treasurer, at once. Members of the -PTA are very much enthused over the cooperation and support they have received and express the opinion that no one will regret the amount he has given to the project when the band is organ ized and members bptn to play. - .......
