Field, Virginia, has been received by
the Edenton office of the North Caro
lina State Employment Service.
Mrs. Corie B. White, manager of
the local office, declared that short
ages of these specialized workers
must be met as soon as possible to
avoid serious delays in the govern
ment’s aeronautical research pro
gram, vital to national defense and
to America’s leadership in commercial
aviation. She said that the search
for the necessary workers is being
extended to many parts of the
country.
This important research facility,
operated by NACA, is seeking build
ing architects; electrical, mechanical
and aeronautical engineers; statisti
cal technicians, physicists and drafts
men —architectural, mechanical and
structural, the ES office manager
said. Salaries for these positions
range from $2,168 to $4,149 annually.
Openings also are available for
skilled Instrument Makers and Radio
Mechanics at yearly salaries rang
ing from $1,705 to $3,057.
Mrs. White said that full details
on each position will be made avail
able to interested persons. The
Langley Field laboratory, she pointed
out, has been operated by the gov
ernment for 30 years and its accom
plishments are many. Most of the
preliminary design work on the
D-558, the transoceanic Douglas Sky
streak which hpld the world air speed
record of 650.6 miles per hour, was
conducted there.

BONDS OF THE COUNTY OF

WHEREAS, the County Board of
. Education of the County of Chowan
I has certified to the County Board of
.. Commissioners that said County
I Board of Education has ascertained
; 1 and determined that it is necessary
• to provide the school facilities de
■ scribed in Section I of this bond or
) der in order that said County, as an
• administrative agency of the public
school system of the State of North
5 Carolina may maintain ppblic schools
’ in said county for the six months term
required by the Constitution of North
: Carolina, and that it will be necessary
‘ to expend not less than $75,000.00 to
■ finance said school facilities, and has
requested the Board of Commission
> ers to raise said sum by the issuance
. of bonds of the County of Chowan;

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees
of the Edenton City Administrative
1 Unit has certified to the County Board
of Commissioners that said Board has
ascertained and determined that it is
' necessary to provide the school facili
-1 ties described in «Section 2 of this
, bond order in order that said County,
. as an administrative agency of the
public school system of the State of
North Carolina, may maintain public
• schools in said County for the six
months term required by the Con
stitution of North Carolina, and that
it will be necessary to expend not less
than $325,000.00 to finance said
school facilities, and has requested
the Board of Commissioners to raise
said sum by the issuance of bonds of
the County of Chowan; NOW
THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDERED by the Board of
Commissioners of the County of Cho*"
wan as follows:
Section 1. The Board of Commis
-1 sioners of the County of Chowan has
ascertained, and hereby determines,
that it is necessary to erect, equip
and furnish (1) a new building to be
used as a physical education building'
at the Chowan County High School in
the Chowan County Administrative
Unit, (2) a new building to be used
as a school garage building at the
Chowan High School in the Chowan
County Administrative Unit, in order
that Chowan County, as an adminis
trative agency of the public school
system of the State of North Caro
lina, may maintain public schools in
said county for the six months term
required by the Constitution of North
Carolina, and that it will be necessary
to expend for such purposes not less
than $75,000.00, and that no provi
sion has been made by local tax or
otherwise to raise said sum for such
purposes.
Section 2. The Board of Commis
sioners of the County of Chowan has
ascertained, and hereby determines,
that it is necessary to erect, equip
and furnish new buildings containing
additional classrooms required for the
Edenton White Schools and Edenton
Colored Schools, and that such school
facilities are necessary in order that
the County of Chowan, as an admin
istrative agency of the public school

gregate principal amount of said
bonds authorized by this bond order
shall be. Four Hundred Thousand Dol
lars ($400,000.00).
Section 4. A tax sufficient to pay
the principal of and interest on said
bonds when due shall be annually
levied and collected.
Section 5. A statement of the
county debt of the County of Chowan
has been filed with the Cleric of the
