Conk* Speaker At MeetingOf Rotary Meeting Thursday Post poned Due/to 'Hianks giving Holiday Today (Thursday) being Thanks giving Day, there will be no meeting of the Edenton Rotary Club, accord ing to R.. F.'Elliott, president of the club. At last week’s meeting Norman Cordon, Metropolitan Opera baritone, who presented a concert Thursday night in the local high school, was the principal speaker. Mr. Cordon, a guest of Dr. Frank Wood, said that although he has traveled extensively throughout North and South America, it was good to get back home. A na tive North Carolinian, born in Beau fort County, Mr. Cordon said he has a warm spot in his heart for all of North Carolina. During his remarks Mr. Cordon said that to become a singer requires just as much hard work and patience as a doctor or lawyer experiences on his way up the ladder of success. Mr. Cordon find started on his mu sical career as a Boloiet in the tJni-' versity of North Carolina Glee Club/ where he was a student. He came to Edenton while on his way to the Caro lina-Duke football game at the invita tion of Dr. Frank Wood, a long-time friend. Like Kay Kyser, Mr. Cordon said he is interested in hospitalization in North Carolina and for that reason offered his services free, so that all of the proceeds of his concert went to the Chowan Hospital. Mr, Cordon was a very entertaining speaker and his remarks thoroughly enjoyed by the Rotarians present. Before Mr. Cordon spoke, President R. F. Elliott called upon each one present to stand with bowed heads in a minute of silence in respect for the late John A. Moore, a valuable mem ber of the club.
