Marsh, arrangements com- I mittee chairman, Leslie Morgan. The group decided to stage a fish fry on April 16 and to invite footbp.ll teams from the local high school to be special guests. A faculty member and the coaching staff will also be invited. Dr. Carey H. Bostian was the speaker for the occasion and was in troduced by H. W. (Pop) Taylor, ex ecutive director of the State College Alumni Association. Dr. Bostian told the group something about the or ganization of the School of Agricul ture. An item of great importance to Chowan County people is the fact that the Agricultural Experiment Station now has three men who are' devoting full time to peanut prob lems. One man is studying breeding, another fertilization, and the third is working on the control of peanut diseases. I Film slides of the campus were shown and the local group was well pleased with recent progress. Chowan alumni attending the meet ing were W. B. Shepard, C. W. Over man, R. C. Jordan, Albert Byrum, I Leslie Morgan, Daniel Reaves, Robert 1 S. Marsh and Emmett Wiggins. J. T. Layton Secured As Fire Truck Driver Though A1 Owens, one of the Edenton Fire Department drivers is gradually recovering from the acci dent on Thanksgiving day morning in which B. Henry Smith was killed, he is still unable to be on duty. In the absence of Mr. Owens, J. T. Layton has been employed as a driv er at least until Mr. Owens can re sume his duties. Mr. Layton, a resident of the Rocky Hock section, is a veteran of World War II and, according to Fire Chief R. K. Junior Class Play Friday Night Capable Cast Promises Interesting Entertain ment at School Friday night, December 12, the Junior Class of Chowan High School will present a three-act comedy, “Un der Western Skies,” in the school au ditorium, starting at eight o’clock. Miss Louise Wilson is directing the play with the following taking part: Barry Boyd, a tenderfoot from the East, James Dail. Mrs. Farmer, his next door neigh bor, Marguerite Nixon. Pete Posey, a ranch hand, Kelly Byrum. Sanderson Trent, an Easterner, Jack Leary. j Diana Taylor, also from the East, Christine Harrell. Laughing Water, a young Indian girl, Audrey Bunch. Sugar Foot Williams, a gentleman of color, Richard Leigh. Callie Williams, his wife, Audrey Pearce. Nella, Bella and Della, the sisters of radio fame, Gladys Copeland, Frances Bunch and Mary Bunch. Sheriff Crunch, Leon Bunch. The cast has been practicing faith fully and according to advance reports the group will present a very worth while entertainment, to which the pub- 1 lie is cordially invited. A small ad mission will be charged. I SANTA CLAUS COMING FRIDAY Continued From Page One Sinclair Gas Station, The Chowan Herald, John Mitchener, Edenton Supply Co., Quinn Furniture Co., Anne’s Beauty Salon, Cuthrell’s, Edenton Furniture Co., Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, Lula White’s Flower Shop and the V.F.W. The parade will form at the armory at 6:30 P. M. Entries will report to the parade committee who will be on hand. The tiny tots and youngsters in costume will join the parade at the Post Office, it being considered too great a distance for them to walk from the armory. H. A. Campen, president of the Chowan Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Association, is busily de signing decoration schemes for var ious firms and individuals who know of his skill along this line, and are accepting the service which he has been giving free of charge. Leary Brothers Storage Company is providing a trailer for Santa’s throne, and the E. and W. Board of ! Edenton is taking care of lighting it. I The Rev. David Lawrence is supply : ing the public address system. W. Jim Daniels is taking charge of the group singing of carols and it lis expected that Mrs. Mary Leggett Browning will have a number of ] youngsters present who will sing as a group. The Perquimans High School band will definitely be on hand according to reliable information. While it is expected that the Elizabeth City High School band will accept the invita tion, yet at this writing it has not been confirmed through Miles Clark, nor through school officials. Santa will ride downtown on an Edenton Cannon Company tank with a guard of honor supplied by the Cannon Company. Boy Scouts under Scoutmaster Charles Overman, and Cubs under Cubmaster Clarence Speight will be in the parade. Scout master O. C. Long of Rocky Hock is also expected to be on hand with his boys. While Hertford Scouts have been asked to participate it is not known at this time if they will do so. Children in the schools have been asked to participate in the par -1 ade. Medical Society Will Meet December 17th A meeting of the First District I Medical Society will be held Wednes- : day, December 17 at 7:30 P. M. at - the Duke of Windsor Hotel in Wind sor. The principal speaker will be Dr. Harry Pariser, of Norfolk, whose subject will be “Common Derma tological Conditions.” Dr. Roland Vaughan is president of the group and Dr. Martin Wisely is secretary. - - I. - PERSONAL ITEMS Mrs. Paul Patterson has returned home after spending a few days last week with her husband, M/Sgt. The Most Reverend Vincent S. Wa ters, Bishop of Raleigh, visited Father Francis J.
