‘Six Farmers Sign 4 For 5-Acre Cotton f Growing Contest | Beekeeping and Peanut l Demonstrations Now In Progress Six Chowan County cotton growers ; have signed applications td partici pate in the 1948 Five Acre Cotton Growing Contest to date, according to County Agent C. W. Overman. A beekeeping demonstration was started with Lonnie Harrell of the Rocky Hock community. Mr. Harrell purchased five colonies of bees. Two * of these perished due to lack of suffi ' cient food and one other colony is very weak due to a poor queen. Two of the colonies show good strength and will give* Mr. Harrell a good start. Hobbs of the Edenton com munity is conducting a peanut grow ing demonstration. Last fall Mr. Hobbs selected two plots to try 0-10- 20 applied in the fall for winter peas. These plots received 300 pounds of 0-10-20 per acre broadcast before seeding Austrian winter peas. Peas were also seeded on the check plots adjoining but no fertilizer applied. The check plots will be fertilized ac cording to the regular farm practice this spring. Mr. Overman reports that tobacco plants are beginning to show a fair stand. Instructions for controlling blue mold have been mailed to the Chowan County tobacco growers. Colored Church Choirs In Program Sunday An outstanding event for lovers of music will take place Sunday after noon at 3 o’clock when colored church choirs of Edenton and Chowan County will present a musical program in the colored high school auditorium. There will be no charge for admis sion and the public is cordially invited to attend. RETURN FROM CLINIC Dr. W. S. Griffin and Dr. A. B. Bonner of Hertford returned Sunday from Washington, D.
