PAGE TWO High Postal Official Young Democrats Speaker Saturday Meeting Expected to At tract Practically All Major Candidates Paul Aiken, second assistant post master general, will be the principal speaker at the meeting of the State Executive Committee of the Young Democratic Clubs which is expected to attract virtually all the guberna torial, congressional and senatorial candidates to Charlotte next Satur day. David H. Henderson, state public relations director for the Young Democrats, has announced that Mr. Aiken will deliver an address at a banquet at 7 P. M. at Hotel Char lotte. Among those att-nding the state wide rally will be Senator William B. Umstead: his opponent, J. Melville Broughton; Charles M. Johnson, Kerr Scott, Mayne Albright and Oscar Baker, candidates for governor; H. P. Taylor, candidate for lieutenant-gov ernor; Commissioner of Labor Forrest Shuford and others. Hoover Taft of Greenville, presi dent of the Young Democratic Clubs of North Carolina, will preside at the regular meeting of the executive com mittee at 3 o’clock Saturdav afternoon and will take a prominent part in the banquet later. Monds is de parting with his unit, the 376th ABN FA Battallion of the famed 82nd Air borne Division, Fort Bragg, for the Third Army-Ninth Air Force training maneuver which will take place in the Kentucky-Tennessee border region during the month'of May. Army and Air Force personnel from posts and bases throughout the seven southeastern states will as semble at Camp Campbell, Kentucky. The exercise will open with the 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers “hit ting the silk” to establish and hold an airhead. These troopers will be close ly followed by ground reinforcements moving overland to support this air head. The Army units will be in the field against the aggressor forces for a period of 20 days. The maneuvers will end in a four day all out offen sive starting on May 24 when the Ninth Air Force and ground force troops combine efforts to drive the aggressor from the Camp Campbell area. A large portion of the troops tak ing part will be operating under ex- | tended field conditions for the first time in their military careers. A. T. Allen Will Again Audit County’s Books Chowan County Commissioners on Monday awarded a contract to A. T. Allen to audit the county’s books. Mr. Allen’s price for this work is $260 for all county books for the year 1947-48, except the Sheriff’s books, which will be on a basis of $25 per diem and expenses. METHODIST SOCIETY MEETS i The Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church met; ; with Mrs. T. B. Williford for their j April meeting with 14 members and four visitors present. Mrs. W. W. Byrum was leader of the worship program, using “The Whole Creation Is Our Lords.” As sisting her were Mrs. G. A. Helms, Mrs. T. B. Williford, Mrs. Edward Speight and Mrs. J. G. Small. During the business session reports were given by the secretaries. Plans were also made to have the mission study class during May. Mrs. Edward Speight invited the society to meet with her in May.
