PROCLAMATION BY MAYOR HASKETT
WHEREAS the prayer of every man and woman of good will in
the world today is for peace and security and the peace of the world
depends upon a strong and prepared United States of America, and
WHEREAS a sound and stable economy is essential to a strong
America and this is the urgent concern of business, industry, labor and
management, government and Consumer alike, and
WHEREAS the soundness and stability of our economy depend in
the end upon the productive effort of each citizen and the thrift of each
individual and family, and
WHEREAS the Savings Bond program of the United States Treas
ury Department encourages thrift and regular saving, works against
further price increases and builds up buying power for the future, and
WHEREAS the Security Loan campaign for United States Savings
Bonds began in this community and across the nation on April 15th
and runs until June 30th,
I, therefore, as Mayor of Edenton, call upon all citizens to examine
personal and family finances with the idea of buying as many extra
bonds as possible during the Security Loan campaign. I urge all who
can take advantage of the Payroll Savings Plan where you work or the
Bond-a-Month Plan where you bank, to sign up for regular, systematic
Bond saving. I commend the School Savings program which implants
the habit of thrift in our children. Finally, since the Security Loan
eampaign and the Savings Bond program depend upon the volunteer
aid of public spirited citizens, I call upon all who- can help sell Bonds
to others to offer their services to the local Savings Bond Committee.
America’s security is our security. Let us build it together.
(Signed) LEROY H. HASKETT, Mayor of Edenton.

Recently I announced that I

IMHMI I will need your votes in order to
get the nomination, and it goes

several terms, and so, you have had

tice in the past to be the same
when I am running for office as
when lam not. So you will note
no change in my attitude towards
iUBMHraMHs you simply because I am seeking
your favor at this time. It has
always been my political creed not to personally solicit votes or to hire
anyone to work for me. It is my concept that one seeking public office
should simply present his name to the voters and leave it to them in
all good conscience and wisdom to do what is best for themselves and
their community. I feel that my legal training and experience in pub
lic affairs qualifies me for the high and responsible office of Repre
sentative. If you think I can best serve you, I will greatly appreciate
your support and will devote my best energies and talents to this end.
If you should not favor me, I will accept your decision in all good spirit.
