In a beautiful ceremony in Evans
Methodist Church Sunday afternoon,
August 22, at 5 o’clock, Miss Mary
Kathleen Asbell, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. James Henry Asbell, became the
bride of George Killebrew, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Mack Allen Killebrew of
New (Bern. The ceremony was per
formed by the Rev. Earl iMeekins.
The church was beautifully decorat
ed with pine, ivy, white gladioli, white
dahlias, palms and white pom-poms.
The bride, who was given in marri
age by her father, wore a dress made
along princess lines with full skirt
ending in a long sweeping train and
leg o’ mutton sleeves. The gown was
made of sheer Japanese silk. The veil
was of imported illusion, fingertip
length and fell from a coronet of seed
pearls, making a flower design. The
bride carried a white prayer book
with a white orchid showered with
ribbon, fern and stephanotis. She
wore pearls.
Mrs. Edward Earl Mcßride, Jr., sis
ter of the bride, was matron of honor
and wore a blue dress and carried
American Beauty roses.
Bridesmaids were Miss Katie Earle
Owen of Roseboro, wearing a yellow
dress; Mrs. John Mercer of Havelock,

carried nosegays of pink roses tied
with rainbow ribbon and matching
flowers for the hair.

Miss Helen Evans rendered the
nuptial music, while Paul Cox of New
i Bern sang “I Love You Truly,” “Be
; cause” and “The Load’s Prayer.”
The bride’s mother wore a light
blue crepe gown with black leather
hat, long white gloves and an orchid
i corsage. The bridegroom’s mother
wore a blue gown with matching blue
i leather hat, 'long white gloves and an
orchid corsage.
After the ceremony the newlyweds
left for a southern wedding trip, af
ter which they will reside in Charles
ton, S. C. For traveling the bride
wore a grey gabardine suit with blue j
and black accessories, grey hat and
white orchid corsage.
The bride is a graduate of East
Carolina Teachers College at Green
ville and has done graduate work at

taught school in New Bern for the
past three years.
The bridegroom graduated from
West Edgecombe High School and
served with the Army Air Force for
four years. He is now employed by
the National Biscuit Company at
Charleston, S. C.

After the ceremony a reception was
held at the home of the bride’s par
ents, where the same decorations as
at the church, green and white, were
used. Mrs. W. C. Evans welcomed
the guests and presided at the bride’s
book. After going through the re
ceiving line, consisting of the wedding
party, the guests were served punch
by Mrs. E. C. Williams and Mrs. Ray
Evans. Mrs. M. P. Whichard cut the
cake. Others assisting were honorary
bridesmaids, Misses Anna Lee Asbell
and Beatrice Wilson Evans. Refresh
ments consisted of punch, three-tier
wedding cake, ice cream, nuts and
mints. Mrs. E. N. Elliott received
guests in the gift room.
Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Elliott enter
tained the wedding party Friday
night at a bridge party, when the
bride-elect was presented a gift of
crystal.
The bride’s parents entertained the
wedding party and out-of-town guests
at a buffet dinner Saturday night be
fore the rehearsal.
