James W. Mitchener And Rachel Woodtey United In Marriage Wedding Solemnized In Columbia Wednesday, September Bth Miss Rachel Virginia Woodley, daughter of Samuel Spruill Woodley of Columbia and Mrs. Sarah Sparks Woodley of New York, and James Waddell Mitchener, son of Dr. John A. Mitchener and the late Mrs. Mitchener, were united in marriage Wednesday afternoon, September 8, in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at Columbia. >. , The Rev. B. W. Gaither, rector, and the Rev. R. L. Hethcox of Newton Grqve officiated at the doulble-ring ceremony. Mrs. D. M. Sawyer, or ganist and Miss Nancy * Meekins, soloist, presented wedding music. '' The candles were lighted by the bride’s brother, Sam S. Woodley, Jr. The bride entered with her father, by whom she was given in marriage.- She wore a wedding gown made of imported silk, with a yoke of mar quisette outlined with a soft ruffle of Chantilly lace. Her fingertip veil of illusion was attached to a crown of orange blossoms. She carried on her prayer book a white orchid show ered with stephanotis, tuberoses and satin streamers. The matron of honor, Mrs. Joseph D. Mayo, Jr., of Henderson, wore a , dress of pink marquisette over taffeta. Her headdress and formal length gloves were of pink net. She carried a bouquet of mixed flowers, j The bride’s’ sister, Mary Ruth Woodley was flower girl. She wore a white dress with a ruffle trimmed yoke and a long full skirt. Her head dress was a frill of white net touched with -blue. She carried a nosegay of mixed flowers. Dr. John A. Mitchener, Sr., father of the bridegroom, attended as best man. The ushers were John A. Her corsage was a white orchid. , Mrs. Mitchener is a graduate of the' University of .North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she recently re ceived her AB degree in chemistry. Ralph Saunders And Doris Jean Jones Wed Ceremony Held In Par sonage at Center Hill September 11 Miss Doris Jean Jones, daughter , of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jones and Ralph E. [ Following the ceremony the newly | weds went to Raleigh on a wedding I trip and are now making their home . with Mr. Saunders’ parents at Tyner. I ' Pvt. Isham 0. Holley Stationed In Japan Private Isham 0. Holley, Route 1, . "Edenton, is now serving with the occupation forces in Kobe, Japan. Kobe, a typical oriental city of Japan, is located in the southern part of Honshu, Japan’s main island, and is well known for its internation al fame and beauty. At present the city is being used as a supply base for the occupation forces of all southern Japan. Private Holley has many oppor tunities to attend the numerous en listed men’s clubs in Kobe. There are two spacious service clubs, a first three graders club and there was recently added a beautiful enlisted men’s club in which Pvt. Holley may . spend a week-end pass or come on off duty hours to enjoy the unlimited entertainment facilities. Joining the Army in August, 1946, at Fort Bragg, N.. C., Private Holley came to Japan in August 1947. Upon his arrival in Japan he was assigned to 710th Military Police Company in Kobe. This unit per forms an important part in the oc cupation of Japan by keeping Kobe patroled to ensure safe driving con ditions along with other important duties. Prior to his entrance into the army he attended Edenton High school. SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY George Hollowell was honored at a surprise birthday .party held at his home on Cabarrus Street Friday night.
