'Miss Joyce Harrell Is Vice President Os Meredith Choir Edenton Girl Chosen at Recent Election Held At College Miss Joyce Harrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Harrell, was elected vice president of the Mere ■ dith College Choir at a recent election when 78 Meredith College students were auditioned successfully for mem bership in the choir." Dr. Harry E. Cooper, head of the department of music, and director of *the choir, stated that rehearsals are held in the college auditorium on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5 o’clock, with Billie Hart of Salemburg, presi dent of the choir, accompanying. 'Special programs which will be in re hearsal immediately are those for the Meredith College’ Founders’ Day to be held November 5, and the annual Christmas concert. »- —« Town Council Proceedings Edenton, N. C., Oct. 12, 1948. The Town Council met this day in the Town office at 8 o’clock P. M. in regular monthly session. Present, L. H. Haskett, Mayor, J. Edwin Bufflap, W. J. Yates, Clyde Hollowell, J. Clar ence Leary and J. P. Partin. ' The minutes of the previous meet ing were read and approved. 4 On motion duly carried, the E. & W. Department is requested to place a street light on East Church street at the approach of the Chas. H. Jen kins Motor Company lot. r On motion duly carried, the con tract for alterations to the old power plant for the Police Department is awarded to C. B. Mooney & Son, they submitting the lowest bid. On motion of J. P. Partin, second ed by J. C. Leary, E. & W. Dept, bills amounting to $8,924.88 are or dered paid. * On motion of J. E. Bufflap, second ed by J. C. Partin, the following amend ment to parking meter ordinance is unanimously adopted: Be it ordained by the Town* Coun cil of the Town of Edenton that sec tion II (d) of the “Parking Meter’’ ordinance adopted October 14, 1947, is amendecT By adding thereto the fol lowing provision: “Provided the Po lice Department of the Town of Eden ton may, in its discretion, remit said penalty of SI.OO, and in lieu thereof shall require the owner or operator of such vehicle to deposit the sum of 5 cents in a parking meter installed at the Police Station of said Town for each hour or fraction thereof such ve hicle has remained overparked; the failure of such owner or operator to make such, deposit shall render such owner or operator subject to the pen alties hereinafter provided for viola tion of the provisions of-this ordi nance.” There being no further business, the Board adjourned.
