PAGE EIGHT SOCIETY NE WS Miss Rebecca Colwell, Miss Mary Lee Copeland and Miss Louise Smith plan to attend a state mid-year coun cil meeting of eßusiness and Profes sional Women’s Clubs at the Holly wood Hotel, Southern Pines, Satur day and Sunday, November 20-21. Mr. and Mrs. T. Judson Peake of Churchland, Virginia, left Edenton Saturday, November 13 for Eagle Pass, Texas, where they will spend the winter. They were accompanied by their granddaughter, little Miss Milly Price, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Taylor of Edenton. B. T. Boyd, Jr., of Greenville spent the week-end in Edenton visiting friends. W. Jim Daniels and Raleigh Hol lowell returned home Sunday after noon after spending the latter part of last week attending Red Men meetings in Rocky Mount, Gastonia and Reidsville. Miss Mamie Thomas Hogg spent last week as the guest of Mrs. Belle W. Parker at her home in Tyner. W. M. Rhoades left early Tuesday morning for New Bern, where he is attending a Scottish Rite ceremony. He will return home today (Thurs day). Lance Bufflap of Wallace spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Edwin Bufflap. NO INTIMATION Some misunderstanding apparently developed as the result of a story in The Herald last week to the effect that Ernest Kehayes’ prize winning dog in the recent field trials dis appeared after the hunt. J. P. Perry Partner In White’s Barber Shop Ernest White, as of Wednesday, ’ sold half of his interest in White’s Barber Shop, to J. P. Perry. Mr. I Perry has been employed by Mr. White as a barber for 6% years, so that the new partner is no stranger in Edenton. The name will be changed » from White’s Barber Shop to White & Perry Barber Shop, with the concern continuing in business on East King Street. Three Rotary Clubs In Attendance Contest Edenton’s Rotary Club, aside from having an attendance contest among its own member's, is teamed up with the Plymouth and Windsor Rotary Clubs in an attendance contest which will last through December. Albert Lassiter had the misfortune to get his leg broken. He is in the Chowan Hos pital jut at the Edenton ( Air Base. However, the Aces won with a score of 32-0. The Aces will travel to Kinston next Friday for the last game of the season, unless there is a Thanksgiving game scheduled. Af ter the game with Oolumbia the Juniors sponsored a dance. The ar mory was nicely decorated for this event. ’ i The Student Council gave prizes for the best poster on keeping the school grounds clean. Two first prizes were awarded. One to Errol Flynn and one to John Kramer and two second prizes to Carolista Fletch er and Ellis McClenney. The Junior classes are sponsoring a cakewalk in the auditorium. It will last from 11 o’clock to o’clock. There will be cake sales < and chances. This will be given oni Friday. Mr. Thompson’s and Miss Walker’s freshman classes are scheduled to give their program in the auditor ium soon. The sophomore class postpone<f theirs until Thursday, November 18th. She emphasized the need for greater financial support, both in construction and maintenance of buildings, and in securing and holding qualified teachers. *- Two Negro Quartets In Battle Os Songs Two Nhgro quartets will oppose each other in a “battle of song” Sun day, November 28, when the Silver Gate Quartet of Lynnhaven, Va., will oppose the Albemarle Four Quartet of Edenton. The two groups will sing in the Providence Baptist auditorium at 3:30 o’clock in the af ternoon and again at Ryan’s Grove Baptist Church at 8 o’clock. The contest is sponsored in Edenton by the Young People’s Choir, and proceeds will be used to pay sor t new robes which were recently purchased. | Charlie Belch Dies ! As Result Os Stroke Charlie E. Belch, 78, died Monday at the home of his son, Harry Belch, in the Macedonia section as the re sult of a stroke which occurred Sat urday. Mr. Belch, however, had been in failing health for a number of years. He was a native of Hert ford County, coming to Chowan as a young man about 60 years ago, where he engaged in farming until his health began to fail. His wife died January sth of this year.
