PAGE TWO Chowan Lagging In Inspection Os Cars Lane No. 39 Will Be In Edenton Three Times In 1949 D. Skiles, supervisor for Lane 39 of the State automobile mechanical ] inspection lanes, early this' week stated that during the coming year he will conduct two inspections, which means that the number of automobiles to be inspected will be doubled. In the seven counties where he works he will have approximately 38,000 cars to inspect, with about 65 per cent failing on the initial inspec tion, making in the neighborhood of 52,000 cars going through his lane. For the owner’s benefit, therefore, Mr. Skiles suggests that cars be in- 1 spected not later than the 18th of, the month the lane is in operation. Lane No. 39 is scheduled to be in Edenton January 15 to 19, February 12 to 15 and March 15 to 17. There will be different models in each month to be inspected. In Jan uary all models up to and including 1936 must be inspected and have the approval seal by January 31, In February 1937 and 1938 models must be inspected and so on during the six month period. This year, according to Mr. Skiles, the lane had only 19,000 inspections with about 4,000 more to go. He said it isn’t possible to inspect all of these cars, so that some will be embarrased January 1 when the Highway Patrol will start enforcing the North Carolina law, which re quires every motor vehicle powered by engine and licensed to be in spected by December 31, 343. ' The same lew modifie 1 says in 1949 a!', me tor vehicles license! :r. North Carolina must be inspected and carry the approval seal by Julv 1, 1949, and the third inspection seal by December 31, 1949. In the eastern district, according to Mr. Skiles, registrations in both Pasquotank and Chowan are behind. “We have been to Edenton 10 times this year with 49 work days, and there are approximately 4,800 auto mobiles registered in Chowan,” said Mr. Skiles. “The lane can handle 295 cars per day, so if 100 per day would come for inspection there would not be long lines and tiresome waiting.” ( 30-DAY MILDNESS j f ARE SO MILO i\ WON ME THey HAVE J J "\ e kcm /m.
