' Fear That Peanut I Crop Is Damaged Extent Cannot Be De termined Until Pick ing Is Resumed The weather continued unfavorable for picking peanuts during most of last week at Eastern North Carolina! points. Estimates by the United i States Department of Agriculture placed around 80 per cent of the crop still on stacks in the fields in the North Carolina-Virginia area. It is feared that considerable damage to the crop has resulted. However, the damage cannot be determined until active picking is resumed. Peanut prices continued generally . | at support levels. Asking prices by E shellers for edible peanuts strength ened with short offerings of fanners’ f stock, on account of weather condi i tions, responsible according to trade j I^reports. Funeral Services Held I For Erie Forehand j The body of Pfc. Erie P. Forehand, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. 0. J. Fore hand, arrived in Edenton Tuesday and funeral services were held Wed nesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the Quinn Funeral Home with the Rev. W. C. Francis, pastor of the Rocky Hock Baptist Church, officiat ing, assisted by W. J. Berryman. The body was shipped Monday from Philadelphia, where it was sent from Germany. The Chowan County Board of Edu cation met in regular session Decem ber 6, 1948. The following members were present: Mr. J. E. Wood, chair man, Mr. J. I. Boyce, Mr. Carey Ev- • ans, Mr. D. H. Berryman, Mr. G. E. Nixon and Mr. Lloya Briggs. The minutes of the previous meet ing were read and approved. The treasurer’s report for Novem ber was read and approved. The auditor’s report for 1947-48 was approved. The Board accepted the recommendation, and passed a motion authorizing the orig inal drawings be changed to meet the recommendation. The superintendent discussed the type of wiring to be used from the main power line to the gymnasium and garage. He recommended that the building be serviced with under ground conduit rather than to set a pole and pull wire overhead across playground area.
