Aces Place Two On All-Conference Team Russell Wheeler and A1 Habit Easily Win . Berths According to a vote taken in the Northeastern Conference, the Edan ton Aces placed two players on the all-conference football team. Rus sell Wheeler easily won a berth on the team by polling 13 out of a pos sible 14 votes, while A1 Habit polled 10 votes for an end position. The Aces also placed Frank Habit as center on the second team, while Earl Goodwin, Hector Lupton, Jr., and Keith Emminizer won honorable mention. Frank Habit was signally honored by being voted the best center in the conference. 76 Lose Lives In Traffic Accidents Figure Only Three Per Cent Lower Than Last Year During October, 76 persons lost their lives in traffic accidents on North Carolina streets and highways, bringing total traffic deaths for the year to 684, the Motor Vehicle De partment has announced. The Octo ber figure was only three per cent lower than for the same month last year, when 78 persons were killed in traffic mishaps; however, fatalities for the year show a 13 per cent plus reduction over 1947. The October fatality report showed that 22 persons died in pedestrian accidents, a 19 per cent decrease over last year; 16 persons met their deaths in motor, vehicle collisions, a decrease of six per cent over last year; three were killed in auto-train collisions; 29 persons were killed when their cars ran off roadways, an increase of 46 per cent over the same month last year; one death resulted when a car overturned in readw’ay, a decrease of 80 per cent over October of "1947; one person died when his vehicle struck a fixed object; three others were killed in non-collision ac cidents; one died when his vehicle struck an -animal. The Department commented that it was gratifying to note a reduction in pedestrian fatalities —19 per cent lower than last year.
