Layton, chairman of the Edenton Junior Chamber of Commerce “Miss Edenton” contest, a preliminary to the North Carolina State contest to decide “Miss America,” is urging all young ladies between the ages of 18 and 28 who desire to enter the con test to send their entries at once. Any young ladies between the above ages living in the area covered by this con test, which includes Chowan County, are eligible te enter. C„ THUBBDAY, MAT ti, 1949. ; Selling Brooms j Is Unique Feature Os Clean-up Week i ; Edenton High School Band Will Benefit By Sales With this week being observed as clean-up week, sponsored by the Eden ton Junior Chamber of Commerce, brooms will be on sale Saturday in an ! effort to secure funds for the benefit of the Edenton Band. On 'Saturday the brooms will be on sale in front of Byrum Hardware Company, Leggett and Davis and Mitchener’s Pharmacy, and those in charge of the sale, say brooms will be ‘ i delivered to purchasers anywhere in i Edenton. Homes will be canvassed to sell the . brooms, and the band members will al so aid in helping to snake sales during the day. It was pointed out that the brooms are very good, and, though they will be sold for one dollar, they are regularly priced higher. Jaycees and Mayor Haskett are hopeful that citizens* in general will join in the clean-up spirit, even if no brooms are needed, but they point out that by buying a broom, the band will materially benefit. Melodrama Sunday At Colored School Sponsored by Kadesh A. M. E. Zion Church, Arleathia J. Overton of Phila delphia, will present a melodrama, “Was It Too Great A Sacrifice?”, written and produced by herself, at the Edenton colored high school, Sun day night, May 29, at 8 o’clock. The entertainment will present spiritual inspiration and valuable in formation. In connection with the performance some of Edenton’s and Hertford’s most outstanding talent will also take part.
