PAGE TWO Mrs. Ciinkscalas Speaker At Rotary Junior Woman’s Club Guests at Meeting Last Week Members of the Edenton Junior Woman’s Club were guests of the Ro tary Club at its regular meeting Thursday of last week, when the principal speaker was Mrs. Pauline Clinkscales, history teacher in the Elizabeth City High School. Mrs. Clinkscales was accompanied and in troduced to the Rotarians and their guests by J. G. McCracken, superin tendent of Elizabeth City schools. Mrs. Clinkscales directed a portion of her remarks to the United Nations charter, calling attention to the vari ous accomplishments made by the in strument. “Though the United Na tions charter goes in the right direc tion,” said Mrs. Clinkscales, “it does not go far enough.” Giving credit to the accomplishments of the char ter, the speaker said, “the world can not change in a day, a week or a year, but we can have security until it does change.” In reference to Communism, Mrs. Clinkscales said, “we need to acquire all the information possible about it. We know so little and we need to know so much. We must expose and obstruct all groups that attempt to undermine our country. We study cancer and other contagious diseases and why to fight them, why not study Communism so that we can right it?” Citing conditions as they now exist in various parts of the earth, Mrs. Clinkscale said, “Today we have our second chance for peace. We are eith er going to stamp out war or we are going to stamp out the world. We are either going to live in peace or in pieces. “Unless we can bring about a re formation or revolution, we cannot succeed. There must be a reforma tion or revolution —a spiritual and moral reformation or revolution if we are to survive.” At the conclusion of her address President J. E. Wood of the Rotary Club expressed the opinion that it would be a fine thing if it were pos sible to have Mrs. Clinkscales deliver the same address all over the state and nation as well. Mrs. J.
