Rain With the Edenton Colonials defeat ing the Windsor Rebels in the semi finals for the Albemarle League championship and Colerain topping Plymouth, the Colonials and Trappers were scheduled to begin the seven game championship series Tuesday night on Hicks Field. A downpour of rain late Tuesday afternoon, how ever, prevented the start of the series, so that the first game was scheduled to be played Wednesday night after the Herald was printed. Both semi-final winners had a hard road to travel to win the right to play for the championship. In the first place Windsor was put to the test to get in the play-off ser ies, and then went on to take the first two semi-final games from Edenton, only to lose the remaining games. The Colonials actually had to win five games to take the series due to replaying a protested game. The Colerain-Plymouth series went the full seven games, with a battle royal in Plymouth Monday night to decide the winner. The two teams battled for 13 innings before the Trappers shoved across the winning run by a score of 7-6. Plymouth was leading 6-5 in the eighth inning, but the trappers scored the tieing run in the ninth. It was ■ not until the 13th inniog when Cole rain shoved across another run which THE CHOWAN HERADL, EDENTON, N. C., THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1949. entitled them to meet Edenton in the championship series. It required three hours and 25 minutes to. play the game, and was said to be the most exciting game played on the Plymouth diamond this season.
