Edenton Aces Trim Tarboro 21 To 14 Game Ends With Fight Among Players and Spectators Coach George Thompson’s Edenton Aces defeated Tarboro High School on the latter’s field Friday night by the score of 21-14. An unfortunate part of the game was a fight which : developed among players of both “ teams and some of the spectators ' near the end of the game. Just what caused the swinging of fists is not definitely determined. J The Aces, .playing in good form, ' scored two touchdowns in the second quarter when they marched 35 yards ' down the field and Earl Goodwin , plunged through the line for the first ] score of the game. Near the end of the first half Earl Minshew flipped a pass to Frank Hughes, which was good for the second touchdown. In the third quarter when the Aces were near the Tarboro goal line, Lane ploughed through the line for the ( third Edenton touchdown. Gene Tay- , lor kicked to make good each try for , extra point after touchdown. Tarboro seriously threatened in the : final period, when two touchdowns were made as they resorted to the air. Passes from Sasser to Thomason re sulted in both scores and each try for extra point was good. Edenton Dragons Trim Hertford 13-0 Homecoming Day Fea tured By Parade Fri day Afternoon I The Edenton Dragons, colored high " school football team, observed home coming day Friday, and climaxed the afternoon by defeating the Hertford Phantoms on Hicks Field by a score of 33-0. Prior to the game a parade was held, led by the Roper High School Band and included a large number of decorated cars and floats. On the kickoff Sutton carried the ball from his own 20-yard line to the 45 before he was brought down. Moses Bembry crashed through the center of the line to score the touch down. In the second half the Dragons had little trouble in making their second ! touchdown. A Hertford fumble was recovered and on an end run Willie Wert raced 45 yards to score stand ing up. West also kicked the extra point. The Dragons are scheduled to play Greenville in Greenville Friday night. Coaches Newsome and Scott say they will use the same starting lineup and that all the boys are in good shape. Friday’s lineup included Austin and Halsey, ends; Brooks and Blount, tackles; J. Bembry and Mayo, guards; Brinkley, center; West, W. Bembry, and Sutton, backfield. Noted 7%mat Specialists report on 30-DayTest of Camel Smokers ... NOTONE SINGLE CASE OF THROAT IRRinfllON CAMELS! A club assembly was held prior to the meeting which was . attended by officers of the club and various committee chairmen. Mr. Brinson was also the principal speaker at the dinner meeting of the club. He said that no man becomes ' a good Rotarian in a day, week, month ; or even a year in some instances. Pointing out that a doctor or lawyer becomes better in his profession as the result of practice, so a Rotarian becomes a better man and Rotarian as he practices what Rotary stands for. le emphasized the fact that liberty and Rotary are synonymous, for where there are free people, there will be found Rotary. The District Govern or urged each Rotarian to ask himself ithe question, “How good a Rotarian am I?” Mr. Brinson was introduced by President George Twiddy. THE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTON, N. C., THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27, 1949. - ~ 1 -'in — 11 1 i How Employers Can Help Their Employees Many potential beneficiaries under the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance program lose benefits because they fail to file so rthem promptly. This is according to an announcement by J. A. Morrison, manager of the Nor folk Social Security Administration Field Office. Mr. Morrison stated that possibly the reason potentioi beneficiaries failed to claim benefits due them was because they did not realize their rights. The Social Security Admini stration has no way of knowing when a worker retires either temporarily or permanently, he added. The employer has a valid interest in seeing to it ;hat his employees re ceive the benefits for which they have shared in paying. To inform each of • his employees of retirement age that they can claim benefits for any months earn less than $15.00, would seem to be an integral part of good industrial relations. Retired workers are not the only persons losing benefits. Survivors of deceased workers have also lost bene fits. Here again the employer may help prevent such loss by letting the survivor of a deceased employee, re- ' gardless of the iatter’s age, know that : he, or she, should contact your local social secruity field office to file a claim immediately, or within three ■ months at most. EPISCOPAL CHURCH SERVICES Services at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church have been announced as fol lows by the rector, the Rev. Harold W. Gilmer: Sunday' October 30, Twentieth Sunday after Trinity, 8 A.
