PAGE TEN Miss Martha Conger Weds Clarence Leary Saturday Afternoon —* Impressive Ceremony Is Performed In Bap tist Church In a very beautiful and impressive ceremony in the Edenton Baptist Church Saturday afternoon, Miss Martha Leah Conger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Harold Conger, be came the bride of Joseph Clarence Leary, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Clarence Leary. Officiating at the ceremony were the Rt. Rev. Thomas Henry Wright, Bishop of the East Carolina Diocese of the Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Harold W. Gil mer, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Miss Agnes Chappell, organist of the church, played the wedding music. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a wedding gown of duchess satin, with a Queen Anne collar, long, close fitting body forming a Princess line, with the pleated skirt falling into a full-length train. Her full-length veil of silk illusion was fashioned with a coronet of ancestral lace. She carried a bou quet of white orchids and stephanotis. Miss Harriet Conger, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a gown of Lyons velvet in Bavarian blue and carried a bouquet of orchid chrysanthemums, with a matching ar rangement of flowers in her hair. The bridesmaids were Miss Nancy O’Keefe of Bluefield, W. Va., Miss Margaret Norfleet of Jackson, N. C., Miss Gene Rose and Miss Mary Anne Rose of Henderson, cousins of the bride; Mrs. Ben Askew of Suffolk, Va., Mrs. Rich ard Weeks of Chapel Hill, and Miss Lillian Leary, sisters of the bride groom. Their gowns and flowers were identical to that of the honor attend ant. J. Clarence Leary was his son’s best man. The bridegroomsmen were Elton Forehand, Jr., of Elizabeth City; Jack McGinn of Savannah, Ga., Rich ard Weeks of Chapel Hill; George A. Byrum, Joseph H. Conger, Jr., Bruce Jones and West Byrum all of Edenton. Immediately after the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Conger entertained at home at a reception, the wedding par ty, out-of-town guests, relatives and friends. After the reception Mr. and Mrs. Leary left for a northern wedding trip. The bride wore for traveling a red plum suit with a matching velvet hat. Mrs. Leary is a graduate of Saint Mary’s School and Junior College in Raleigh and attended Tobe-Cobum School in New York City. Mr. Leary is a graduate of the University of North Carolina.
