The dub room was attractively decorated in Christmas colors and boasted a beautifully lighted tree, un der which were loads of Christmas presents. The Christmas theme was also carried out in favors. The party got underway with the singing of Christmas carols, under the direction of Miss Lena Jones with Miss Dorothy Williams at the piano. The group especially enjoyed the beautiful solo selections by Mrs. Frank Elliott, who sang “Gather Around the Christmas Tree,” and “Gesu (Bambino,” and “Auld Lang Syne,” sung by Mrs. Elizabeth Cor bett, a British nurse at the Chowan Hospital, and “Silent Night,” by Clyde Stamps, in which the group later joined in. The American version of the Vir ginia Reel created much fun as the dancers jumped all over the place. The dance figures were called by Mrs. Marie Davis, who with Miss Fannie Sue Sayers had charge of the enter tainment. The husband-calling contest was won by Mrs. E. T. Rawlinson, whose demonstration on how she gets her husband was so effective. Other games played included a relay race and a spelling contest.
