BY NANCY BOSWELL
The brisk, wintry December winds
find the Seniors making preparations
for holiday fun. On December 23 a
sweater hop is on the program for
everyone. This affair will be held at
the armory, beginning at 9 o’clock. A
small admission charge will be made.
Before the aged 1949 leaves so the
infant 1950 can make its entry, there
! are three Seniors that are steadily
[ working.
Near the last of the 1949 year book
are four pages.
On the first of these pages is the
photograph of Mary Dale Spry, a
smart and an alert student. The
| Spotlight staff is thankful that Mary
Dale is the assistant editor. She is
president of the Edenton High School
Glee Club and a member of the Treble
Clef Club. Among the other extra
curricular activities Mary Dale is
also prominent. She was a cheer
reader this year, a PH A worker and
a typist on the Annual staff.
In the Senior superlatives Mary

Dale was elected as the best sport
Other than school activities, Mary
Dale works at the Taylor Theater.
Earl Minshew’s picture and the
reasons why he is an outstanding
Senior was presented on the next
page. Earl is popular among both
the old and young. An outstanding
defensive player for the Aces was
Earl. In the Senior crass this fellow !
was elected as a representative to ■
the High School Student Council. ;
The cutest boy in the class was chos- ;
en as Earl.
The third page was posted with i
Patsy Taylor and activities she par
ticipated in. On the Annual staff .
Patsy is the assistant editor of “The i
Edentonian.” She is a member of the
FHA Club and a constant worker.
Patsy is the only Senior girl who :
is athletic-minded. She has been a ,
cheerleader for the past two years i
and a basketball player for five years.
The honor of being president of the
Girls’ Monogram Club was bestowed
upon her at the beginning of this
season. V.
In the Senior superlatives Patsy
was elected as the prettiest and the
most, athletic. Patsy is well liked by
both the faculty and her classmates.
After turning to the fourth page, I
saw the words, “Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year, Everybody.”
Rose Employees Enjoy
Annual Christmas Party
One of the most enjoyable affairs :
of the approaching Christmas season :
was held on Wednesday night, De- .
cember 14, when the employees of the •'
Edenton store of Roses’ Five and Ten i
Stores were entertained at their an-■ j
nual Christmas Banquet in the Wo-:
man’s Club Building at Cross Roads.
This banquet is one of the many
social gatherings the employees enjoy
during the year and is looked forward
to with great anticipation.
The club house was beautifully
decorated in the traditional Christmas
evergreens and candles, the center at
traction being the huge Christmas
tree, with gifts for everyone sur
rounding it.
After enjoying the sumptuous han
quet prepared by the ladies of the
Chowan Woman’s Club, much fun
and pleasure was had by the pres
entation and opening of Christmas
gifts.
A program of Christmas music was
rendered by employees of the store, :
the poem, “Night Before Christmas,” ,
being one of the highlights of the !
evening.
Carol singing was then enjoyed by i
all present, goodbyes were said and ;
thanks were extended to Paul Wal- ,
lace, the Store Manager, and excel- •
lent host of the evening.
