Mary Bunch Elected President Os Rocky Hock Church YWA Delightful Meeting Held At Home of Mrs. John Perry The Edith Shultz Y. W. A. of Rocky Hlock Baptist Church met at the home of the Counsellor, Mrs. John Perry ! with practically all members present. 1 The meeting was called to order by j liuth Worrell and after roll call and i reading of minutes a Lottie Moon j Christmas offering was takeh. i A feature of the program was elect . ion of officers for the year 1950, with the following being elected: President, Mary Bunch; vice-presi dent,- Christine Harrell; secretary treasurer, Marguerite Nixon; program chairman, Grace Bunch; social com mittee, Eleanor Evans, and Lillie Mae Bunch; enlistment and publicity com mittee, Geraldine Evans and Kranees Bunch; community mission> Ruth Worrell and Haze:! Bunch. The group decided to fix Christmas baskets for shut-ins, The program included: Scripture reading by Grace Bunch; Lillie- Mae Bunch read ““Love Gifts That Last”; Geraldine Evans told about the Lottie Moon offering. After singing some Christmas carols the meeting was dis missed with a prayer by Mrs. John Perry. The hostess then served candle wick salad, cookies, crackers, apples decorated like Santa Claus, hot coffee and candy. Mrs. Perry was presented a beautiful bed jacket as a Christmas present. The group was invited to meet with Eleanor Evans for the January meet ing. Funeral Held Friday For Wm. Lloyd Smith Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Rocky Hock Baptist Church for Wil liam Lloyd Smith, 49, who died at his home in the Rocky Hock section Wed nesday of last week. He had been in failing health for about a year. The Rev. Ed Gordon, pastor of the church, officiated, and burial was made in the family cemetery. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Sus ie Smith of Holland, Va., his wife, Mrs. Nelia Smith; two sons, Marvin, at home and Earl Smith of Plymouth; two brothers, Jessie Smith of Edenton and Louis Smith of Holland; three sis ters, Mrs. J. Q. Bass of Edenton and Miss Mary Smith and Mrs. W. L. Hedgepeth, both of Holland. Two grandchildren also survive. Active pallbearers were Charlie Peele, Warner Bass, Linwood Bass, Murray Bass, Percy Smith and Hubert Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Raleigh Peele, George Peele, Ellie Goodwin, Will Pearce, Henderson Nixon, Edgar Pearce, Elbert Peele, Heny Bunch, L. A. Bunch, Robert Morris, Dr. L. R. Williams, W. E. Malone, John Mitch ener, Elisha Harrell, Nearest Jordan, Lloyd E. Bunch and G. W. ENTERTAINS AT MOVIE Emmett P. Jones, Jr., entertained at a moving picture party at his home in Center Hill, Thursday night, De cember 15, at 6 o’clock. Home movies were shown whicli all the children en joyed. Those present were: C. B. and Tom l White, Francis Smithson, Francis and 1 Jimmy Jordan, Bobby and Claire Belch, Jakie Boyce, Buddie, John and I Tommy Belch, Jimmy Turner, Tommy Watson and Richard White. Minutes Os County Board Os Education ’ The Board of Education held its: regular meeting, Monday, December ’ 5, 1949 at 10:00 o’clock in the office j of the Board of Education. Mr. D. H. Berryman, Mr. Carey Evans, Mr. G. E. Nixon, Mr. J. I. Boyce, Mr. Lloyd Briggs and Mr. G. B. Potter, i Chairman were present. The secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting and upon motion made and seconded, saTne were ap , proved as read. The reports of the County Treasur , er and Local School Fund Treasurer were read and upon motih made and . seconded same were approved. The secretary read the Grand Jury’s Report for November pertaining to the condition of buildings and school buses. The secretary read an acknowledge , ment of appreciation from Mr. Z. T. Evans’ family for: flowers sent by the , Board of Education in the death of , Mr. Z. T. Evans. The superintendent read three bids , with illustrations on shower lockers for the Chowan High School Gym nasium. He was advised to purchase . the lockers which in his judgement , were the most adapted. The superintendent advised that J. . L. Batton and Brother have applied a coating of transparent water proof ing to the walls of the Gymnasium. Whereupon, he was advised not to pay the balance of the contract until it had been tested for leaks by another heavy rain. The superintendent reported that l the necessary date for the Negro ; School Building was approximately - completed, and same would be pre sented to the State Board of Educa : tion within the next week or two. C. 1 need of some stone on the ground around the gymnasium, and he was authorized by motion made and ssc oned and passed that necessary stone be purchased. The question of public dances being sponsored by the Cho wan High School in the Gymnasium was discussed. After giving consid erable consideration to the matter, the Board passed a motion prohibiting public dance in the Gymnasium spon sored by Chowan High School. The superintendent read the bills for the month of November, same were approved upon motion made and passed in the amount of -$8,“(ill.00.
