Lexington Attorney Pays Nice Tribute To J. ILMcMuUan L. A. Martin Writes About Local Man In Lexington .Paper L. A. Martin, an attorney of (Lex ington, N. C., recently paid a very nice tribute ito J. H. McMullan in a column he writes for the Lexington Dispatch entitled Meditations and Obeserva tions. The title of the piece written by Mr. Martin was “I Had a Friend," and follows: “I love friends. Not only those friends with whom I rub shoulders here at home every dayr-not only those warm and trusted friends who drop by and visit me in my office or in my home —not only those who walk with me and talk with me—but I love the little spans of friendship that have the force and the strength to stretch acfoss the State. I had a note from my friend, Repre sentative J. H. McMullan, (his inti mates, call him Jack) of Edenton, a day or two ago, and his letter, warm with cordiality and friendship, brought a message that was hearten ing and helpful. ' “Jack, like his brother, Attorney General Harry McMullan, is as lov-, ing and lovable a fellow as one could find in a day’s journey, and the more you are with him the deeper grows your appreciation for his fine and deep and sincere soul. I shall never forget the little excursions of friend ship we used to have together in Ral eigh during the last session of the General Assembly. To fellowship with him and to relax with him around the table at the Green Grill or at the S & W Cafeteria was an ex perience in comradeship and friend ship that one does not easily forget. Aside from his depth of character, his warmth of spirit and his wholesome ness of soul, his calm .poise, and his charity of mind, helped me along the rough places all through the day. Jack and I did not always agree on public questions as we sat together in the Assembly, but that did not dis turb our friendship. He, is the kind whose arrows never leave a sting. The mope he disagrees with you, the more you like him because you find in him' " 11 WISDOM OF THE AGES “A man who can be com fortable in the presence of a grievous wrong is to a great extent guilty of that wrong” All truths should be as clear ly outlined. Practical demon strations of professional honor help bring about an improved state of society. WILLIFORD. if _ ~ <.Pk^u 2sl " FDcNTGiN, N.u. He is the kind of fellow one would like to follow on a fishing trip, or go with him on a prolonged vacation, just to drink from his fountain of philosophy, and to hear him discuss the vital is sues of life. He was elected Mayor of Edenton, and a member of the Gener al Assembly, and to other positions of responsibility, not because of his abili ty to agree with everybody, but be cause so many people agree with him, and because of their admiration for a real man who wears his own collar and does his own thinking. “North Carolina would be a richer State if it had more Jack McMullans, RMSEFACISBEFOREYOU BUY YOU R N EXT BOTTLE OF COLA * ■ « • «v \ WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW WHICH COLA IS OF PROVEN HIGHEST QUALITY?
