Mrs. R. N. Hurdle and Mrs. Jude
Smith of Hertford returned Tuesday
from Washington, D. C., where they
spent some time with Mrs. Hurdle’s
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
H. R. Hurdle.

left Wednesday for New York, where
Mrs. Simonds will join her husband.
Mr. Twiddy will continue on a trip to
the New England States, expecting to
return in about 10 days.

Mawr, Pa., were guests of Sgt. and
Mrs. J. A. Jones during the past
week.
Mrs. Mable White of Washington,
D. C., is spending a few days in Eden
ton visiting friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Northcott of
South Carolina, spent Mother’s Day
visiting Mr. Northcott’s mother, Mrs.
J. S. Northcott.
Mrs. J. E. Debnam, Sr., of Snow
Hill and her son, W. E. Delbnam, radio
commentator, spent Friday visiting
Mr. and Mrs. Ep Debnam. While in
Edenton Mr. Debnam visited Daisy
Alice Ward at Chowan Hospital, for
whom he appealed over the radio for
funds to help 3ave the girl’s life.

and Mrs. Bruce Jones, a student at
the University of North Carolina, has
been notified that he was elected to
membership in Beta Gamma Sigma,
honorary Commerce fraternity.
Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma,
a national organization, is restricted
to the upper three per cent of the
junior class and the upper ten per
cent of the senior class.

The four-day program will include
addresses by V- F. W. Commander
in-Chief Clyde A. Lewis and several
well-known State and national fig
ures; a ibeauty contest in which "Hiss
North Carolina VFW of 1950” will be
selected; reports on activities during
the past year and discussion of plans
for 1950-51; consideration of resolu
tions pertaining to veterans’ welfare,
the Hoover Commission report, world
government, communism, and other
